Eidelstedt celebrates the opening of the new ice rink for an exciting ice sports season!

On December 2, 2025, a temporary ice surface was inaugurated in the Steinwiesenweg sports park in Eidelstedt. This new mobile ice rink, which measures approximately 56 by 26 meters, will be used by Hamburg's ice sports clubs until March 2026. The opening took place in the presence of numerous representatives of the sports sector, including Irmelin Svensson, President of the Hamburg Ice and Roller Sports Association, who delighted State Councilor Christoph Holstein from the Interior and Sports Authority with a cake. Sports Senator Andy Grote emphasized the joint effort of the state sports office, the district and the association to solve the problem quickly. This will temporarily replace the Stellingen ice rink, which was closed in September 2025 due to roof damage, which is welcome news for ice athletes and fans. Eimsbütteler Nachrichten reports that the new ice surface is available for both training sessions and league games.

But what makes the new ice rink so special? One thing is certain: it fills an important gap for players and ice skating fans that was created by the closure of the Stellingen ice rink. This ice rink, as users praise it in their reviews, has its own charm and is very popular due to its family atmosphere. Based on feedback, entry and skate rental prices are reasonable, with a family ticket available for 10 euros. Leon Siebert emphasizes that the ice rink is sometimes quite full, but the price-performance ratio is right. Famizeit shows that, despite its small size, the hall offers a good mix of music and a relaxed atmosphere.

The Stellingen ice rink

The Stellingen ice rink, before it had to close for the reasons mentioned above, was very popular. Many users appreciated the offer, which also included rental skates for 5 euros per pair. However, it was noted that the hall was often overcrowded and some rental skates were in a slightly broken condition, which sometimes spoiled the enjoyment of ice skating. The desire for modernized payment methods, such as EC card payments, was often expressed, but until now only cash payments were possible.

A look into the future

With the new ice surface in Eidelstedt, nothing stands in the way of a lively winter sports season. It remains to be hoped that the Stellingen ice rink will be able to open its doors again soon, as there is great anticipation of further ice skating fun. Until then, sports clubs and amateur athletes can take full advantage of the opportunities in Eidelstedt. In the meantime, everyone involved is pleased with the good hand that those responsible have shown in implementing this temporary solution.
