Inclusion Experience together: DUOday 2025 brings companies and talents together!
On May 22, 2025, the seventh DUOday took place in Hamburg, an event that promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in the world of work. The day offers people with disabilities the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of companies and spend a working day together with an employee. The aim is to bring the skills and potential of these people closer to both the participants and the companies. The Senate coordinator for equality for people with disabilities, Ulrike Kloiber, attaches great importance to this initiative and supports DUOday as patron. According to hamburg.de, almost 150 companies took part this year and thus achieved a really large turnout.
The event on June 19, 2025 at the Chamber of Commerce was another important point in the inclusion agenda. Here, companies shared their experiences from DUOday and reported on how they benefited from the perspective and skills of the participants. DUOday is not only an opportunity for people with disabilities to get to know different professional fields and work environments, but also for employers to discover new skilled workers. A colorful mix of offices, care facilities, logistics companies and small shops were there this year. Companies are convinced that diversity is not only an advantage for society, but also ensures their own development and creates new ideas and income potential.
The background: inclusive working world
However, according to the current reports from Aktion Mensch it shows that there are still challenges to be overcome in the general labor market situation for people with disabilities. The unemployment rate has increased in 2023 compared to the previous year, and more and more companies are not complying with their legal obligation to employ people with disabilities. After 15 years of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities coming into force, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
But something is happening: DUOday as a platform offers a promising approach to improving this situation. Through direct exchange between people with and without disabilities, barriers are broken down and new perspectives are opened up. The duos that are formed on this day can in many cases pave the way for internships, training or even permanent positions.
A call to participate
The State Working Group of Workshops for People with Disabilities, which organizes DUOday, encourages companies and interested parties to continue to get involved in the coming years. A look at Alsterarbeit reveals that the event is a valuable experience for both the participants and the companies. If you are interested, please contact the organizers.
DUOday helps to bring the inclusive society closer little by little. Every step counts, and together you can achieve a lot.
