Former goalkeeper Burchert starts a new chapter at FC St. Pauli!
A chapter closes and a new one begins: Sascha Burchert, the former goalkeeper of FC St. Pauli, has ended his active career. But instead of retiring from football, the 35-year-old will remain loyal to the club and will work as goalkeeping coordinator in the future. This new position allows him to contribute his knowledge and experience to training young talent.
Burchert expressed his enthusiasm about this new challenge: He is looking forward to working with the young players and developing them into professional keepers. In recent years, FC St. Pauli has not promoted much young talent in the goalkeeping department, which is why Burchert's role as a leader and mentor is particularly important. The sports director Andreas Bornemann emphasizes the “importance of the conceptual design” of the goalkeeping area, in which Burchert will play a significant role. With his extensive wealth of experience from 18 years of professional career - including 21 Bundesliga and 132 second division games - he has the perfect qualifications to serve as a role model for young talents.
New paths in the youth sector
The goalkeeper coordinator's job includes developing a comprehensive training concept for the club's goalkeepers. Here Burchert will work closely with the current professional goalkeeping coach, Sven van der Jeugt. The aim is to promote promising talents who can establish themselves as number three in the first team in the next few years. This is particularly important as FC St. Pauli has had difficulty developing its own young goalkeepers in the past.
In his three years at FC St. Pauli, Burchert “only” made four appearances in the DFB Cup and two games for the second team, but he still developed into an important leading player within the squad. He has now put his frustrating last season in sport, in which he missed all appearances due to chronic back problems, behind him and is looking ahead optimistically. “It means a lot to me to remain part of this organization,” said Burchert. The people and the club have always had great meaning for him and his family.
Burchert's future at FC St. Pauli
The club's decision to use Burchert in this key role shows confidence in his abilities, not only as a player but also as an instructor. With this step, FC St. Pauli would like to ensure that more talented goalkeepers emerge from their own youth ranks in the future; a challenge that Burchert will attack with his passion and experience.
His new position as goalkeeper coordinator is a welcome opportunity to advance the club's development while at the same time offering the young people a solid foundation for their sporting future. As they say, “there is something going on”: Burchert has the opportunity to put his vision for goalkeeper training at FC St. Pauli into practice and take the next step in his career as a coach.
The fans and those in charge are excited to see how Burchert's journey in the youth academy will go and what talents he can produce from within his own ranks. An exciting chapter begins!
