FC St. Pauli-Frauen: Bitter defeat against newly promoted Hastenbeck!
The first women's team of FC St. Pauli suffered a setback in the Regionalliga Nord today. In the game against newly promoted SV Hastenbeck, the decision was narrowly 1:2. Despite a dominant style of play and more possession of the ball, the kickers from Hamburg had to complain about two crucial defensive lapses that ultimately served to dampen their ambitions. Coach Jan-Philipp Kalla said: “We accepted the fight too late.”
The game started turbulently. The St. Paulians showed their strength and pressed well, but it took until the 45th minute for the insecurity in the defense to be punished. Elisa Meier gave Hastenbeck the lead. The state of shock was noticeable, especially since Emily Schmolke had to leave the field in the 43rd minute due to an injury, which put an additional strain on the team spirit. Captain Linnea Taube was visibly frustrated with the result and emphasized the need to improve: “The result is anything but satisfactory.” The team has a lot of hard work ahead of them in the coming weeks.
