FC St. Pauli breaks membership record: over 52,000 members!

A big day for FC St. Pauli: The club has set a new record with 52,357 members. This number is historic because the 50,000 member mark was exceeded for the first time in the club's 115 years of history. In the first half of 2025, the number of members will reach an all-time high, which not only makes the club landscape in Hamburg exciting, but also underlines the club's social responsibility. President Oke Göttlich is pleased with the increase and emphasizes the importance of community and shared responsibility in the association. He emphasizes the remarkable commitment in the many departments of FC St. Pauli and the cooperation, both on and off the pitch. These developments make FC St. Pauli a place where not only football, but also values such as social cohesion are in the foreground.

As luck would have it, it's not just FC St. Pauli that is on the rise. There is also positive news across Germany about increases in membership in sports clubs. The Hamburger Sportbund in particular reports the highest number of members of all time and an encouraging trend that can also be seen for other state sports associations. This boom in club memberships, especially in the children's and youth sector, is now also creating a challenge: member retention is becoming increasingly important, as many young people turn away from club sports after a short time and the clubs often suffer from personnel problems and a lack of trainers.

A club with many faces

FC St. Pauli has developed from a small neighborhood club into one of the largest sports clubs in Germany, with a total of 25 departments ranging from basketball to beach volleyball to chess. About half of the new members are active in the amateur divisions. This diversity is also reflected in the numerous social projects that the association has initiated. These include the Run Against Right and the City Park Triathlon, both of which are more than just sporting events. They stand for the values that FC St. Pauli, deeply anchored in the district, stands for.

To celebrate the growth in membership, a special edition of the members' magazine “Im Blickpunkt” was published, which presents all of the association's departments and is accessible online. This edition shows the club's pride and joy in the increase in membership and at the same time is a tribute to the community that makes FC St. Pauli so unique.

It is remarkable how FC St. Pauli not only achieves sporting success, but also serves as a platform for community and diversity. Those responsible agree: The growth shows interest not only in sport, but also in a vibrant and supportive community that extends beyond football. With all of these positive developments, FC St. Pauli continues to thrive and thus sets an example for the importance of club work in today's world.
