Norderstedt vs. St. Pauli: DFB Cup battle in sight at Millerntor!

Eintracht Norderstedt has an exciting duel against FC St. Pauli in the DFB Cup. In the first round, the team from the Regionalliga Nord will face the Bundesliga club, and the anticipation is already palpable. What's special about this game? Norderstedt hopes that it can be played in the famous Millerntor Stadium, as Kicker reports.

The President of Eintracht Norderstedt, Julia Karsten-Plambeck, has already held initial discussions with those responsible at St. Pauli. She emphasized that their own stadium, with only 5,000 seats, is simply too small for such a game. “We hope to reach an agreement by the end of the week,” she said, because the two clubs agree that home advantage can be crucial. However, an exchange of home rights would have to be approved by the German Football Association (DFB), according to NDR.

The framework conditions

The date for the game has not yet been set, it could be between August 15th and 18th. Norderstedt's Edmund Plambeck Stadium has some deficiencies and may only be able to accommodate 2,000 spectators, which can only increase concerns about the venue. Eintracht Norderstedt even has a plan B up its sleeve and could contact Hamburger SV at the Volksparkstadion if the Millerntor is not available. But this step is considered disadvantageous for Norderstedt.

Sports director Frank Spitzer is optimistic about the upcoming encounter. He reminds us of Halleschen FC, who challenged St. Pauli to extra time last year, and hopes that Norderstedt will be able to pull off a similar coup. “It would be a very special moment for the entire region,” says Spitzer.

A look at other games

In addition to Norderstedt, other better-known teams are also represented in the first round of the DFB Cup, such as Holstein Kiel and fourth division teams such as VfB Lübeck. Hanover's new coach Christian Titz will also compete with his “Reds” against another team.

Eintracht Norderstedt can also look forward to a bonus of 210,000 euros for participation in the DFB Cup. These funds could, among other things, be used to rent the Millerntor Stadium to make the sporting event unforgettable for the fans and players.

It remains to be seen whether an agreement will ultimately be reached. However, Norderstedt and St. Pauli have a common goal: a thrilling cup game that shows the passion of football. Hopefully we'll see soon whether the spectators will be able to cheer in the Millerntor or in their own stadium!
