Sad accident in the circus: Münsterland artist dies in a fall!

A tragic accident shook the Circus Paul Busch in Bautzen last Saturday. The 27-year-old circus performer Marina B. fell from a height of five meters during a trapeze act and died shortly afterwards from her injuries in the ring. There were over 80 spectators present at the incident, including many children, who watched in horror as the disaster unfolded. Screams echoed through the tent and many guests fled the performance. This reports Picture.

Worryingly, Marina had not used a safety rope during her performance, which can be fatal if she falls from this height. The police confirmed that the decision about security rested with the artist himself and that no one else was in the ring during the accident. Ralf Huppertz, CEO of the Association of German Circus Companies, expressed his concerns: It is extremely rare that a well-trained artist does not survive a fall of this height. While the exact circumstances of the fall remain unknown, it is believed that health issues may have played a role, Huppertz noted. The investigation is ongoing and the circus will remain closed for the time being due to the bereavement, as announced in a message in the ticket booth.

Safety standards in circuses

This tragic event raises questions about safety standards in circuses. The job of an artist is known to be risky, and there are different requirements that vary depending on the type of circus. How Swabian reported, circuses in Germany are not subject to uniform safety regulations. Although there are general occupational safety rules, there are no specific requirements for protecting artists during their performances. For example, nets are required by law for aerial acts, but the implementation of safety precautions is often left to the discretion of the circus company.

Marina B. lived on Mallorca and had been part of the Circus Paul Busch crew since March 2025. With over ten years of experience, she was considered a perfectionist who carried her passion for artistry deep in her heart. She described her job as a way to share her joy with others. While the circus is undeniably a place of entertainment and fascination, this tragic event highlights the vulnerability of performers and the need for increased safety measures in the industry.

Many people are deeply shocked by the incident. Help for traumatized bystanders is provided through crisis intervention teams. This sad episode pushes the circus world to reflect on its safety practices and push for better protection for both performers and spectators in the future.
