Ice disaster in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Over 20 accidents in the morning!

Winter has Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania firmly in its grip. This morning there were over 20 slippery accidents between 6:30 and 8 a.m n-tv reported. The slippery road surface and the early snowfall put a damper on many commuters' plans and caused some drivers to skid. Fortunately, most of the accidents were minor, although there were several minor injuries. No more serious injuries have been reported at this time.

In West Mecklenburg, where 17 accidents were recorded alone, a 21-year-old experienced a serious situation on the A20 near Grevesmühlen. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and his car had damage worth around 2,500 euros. There was also a more serious accident on the B96 between Sagard and Sassnitz, in which a 19-year-old came off the road in a curve and collided with a 56-year-old. Both women suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital. The federal highway had to be closed for an hour and the property damage amounted to around 30,000 euros.

Authorities urge caution

The police call for caution! Several observations on the roads show that many drivers were a little too careless when overtaking snow clearing vehicles. Another accident occurred near Bad Kleinen, where two cars collided due to the slippery road, fortunately without anyone being injured. Nevertheless, one thing remains clear: slippery conditions and excessive speeds are a dangerous combination that must be avoided.

The situation is not only tense in West Mecklenburg. In the Ludwigslust-Parchim district there were also several accidents on the A24 as well as in Neustadt-Glewe and other places. In moving images, reports of the weather-related accidents show how slippery the roads were. Here too, all drivers were uninjured, but the damage to property ran into the thousands.

The importance of winter tires

Against the background of the numerous accidents, the 🚗 winter tire requirement in Germany is emphasized again. This applies situationally, which means that in winter road conditions, such as black ice or snow, according to ADAC appropriate tires must be mounted on all four wheels. Let's listen to the experts: Anyone who drives without winter tires can quickly be punished with fines of 60 euros or even more. A point in Flensburg could also be the result. If you want to be on the safe side, you should choose tires with the Alpine symbol, which indicates that they are particularly suitable for winter.

The weather forecast shows that temperatures will rise to up to 12 degrees by Friday. A good reason to take care of yourself and your vehicle in good time before unexpected slippery conditions and snow hit the roads again. stay tuned and drive carefully!
