600 years of Brüel Riflemen’s Guild: tradition meets youth sport!
The Brüeler Schützenguild, one of the oldest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, was founded in 1425 and is a living example of the long traditions of shooting. What began as a vigilante group to protect the city has developed over the centuries into a sports club without a military mission. This year the guild looks back on 600 years of history. Shooting in a wide variety of disciplines is the heart of the club. Whether with an air rifle, air pistol, small caliber or large caliber shooting, even archery and crossbow shooting is part of the offer. The members also enjoy trap and clay pigeon shooting. Children aged 8 and over can gain their first experience with the air rifle or bow; From the age of 14 you have the opportunity to take part in small-caliber shooting. And the big ones? From the age of 18 or 21 you can start using the large caliber!
Community and tradition
The Brüeler Schützenguild attaches great importance to youth work. Training is scheduled for the 14 to 15 young people once a week, while the competitive shooters are on the shooting range two to four times a week. This form of commitment has paid off: The club can look back on impressive successes, such as national championship titles in air rifle and participation in German championships as well as competitions abroad, including in Italy, France and Hungary.
But it's not just shooting that creates sociability. The guild organizes various community events such as bowling evenings, skat rounds and excursions to keep club life alive. Traditions such as the royal shooting and cannon shooting are firmly anchored and create unforgettable moments in the annual club life.
A look into history
The history of shooting is worth telling: over the centuries, shooting associations have not only survived crises, wars and social upheavals, they are also a symbol of the social togetherness to which the guild has always remained loyal. Belief in basic values and togetherness are cornerstones that shape the life of a shooter. Schützenwesen.eu states that...
The shooting festival is also a strong piece of identity for the region. It is celebrated annually and the shooting king or queen is the focus of the festivities. Processions and parades, characterized by uniform rifle uniforms, not only represent the community, but also the cohesion in society. The DSB emphasizes that...
We can look forward to the anniversary year of 2025, in which the Brüeler Schützenguild would like to bring young and old together with a variety of activities and events. A good reason to keep the old tradition alive and to introduce many young people to the fascination of shooting sports!
