Opening of the romantic gallery in Greifswald: A festival for Friedrich!
Greifswald, Deutschland - good news from Greifswald! In the Pomeranian State Museum, preparations for a new exhibition are ongoing, which is entirely devoted to romance. The planned [Gallery of Romanticism] (https://www.ndr.de/kultur/zielgerade-fuer-galerie-derromantik-in-greifswald, Kulturkurzmort-228.html) aims to build on the great success of the Caspar-David anniversary in 2024. With an opening date on October 17, 2025, the team around Ruth Slenczka has now set a clear time frame for the presentation of this impressive show.
What can visit visitors? A highlight of the exhibition will be the newly built chapel in the entrance area. This chapel will be equipped with around six meters high, movable screens and thus offers an innovative way to empathize with Caspar David Friedrich's thoughts, image, color and landscape world. This could open a completely new dimension of experience and understanding his art.
Caspar David Friedrich: A life between hope and abyss
Caspar David Friedrich, born in Greifswald in 1774 and died in Dresden in 1840, is considered an outstanding representative of German romance. His works often show a person who is in the face of nature - between hopes and abysses. His most important pictures such as "Mönch am Sea", "Hikers over the fog sea" or "The Arctic Sea" reflect a fascinating connection between people and nature. Germany.de describes the images as complex compositions from reality and emotion, in which Friedrich also addresses the loneliness of the individual.
A central element in Friedrich's works is nature itself, which he changed with a unique feeling for perspectives and light. He often represents people with his back to the viewers, which is an invitation to the audience to experience the world from the perspective of his characters. In his biography "The Magic of Silence", art expert Florian Illies mentions that, despite his difficulties in painting faces and figures, Friedrich still achieved great successes, such as the sale of his famous painting "Mönch am Sea" to the king of Prussia.
of forgetting to rediscovery
After Friedrich's death, his work was temporarily forgotten. The melancholy mood of his pictures was less paid to, and even the poet Goethe, whom Friedrich worshiped, rejected his art in great words. In recent years, however, interest in Friedrich's work has reinforced, and it is gratifying to see that it is re -evaluated as a possible forerunner of modernism in art history.
In preparation for the Romantic Gallery, the Pomeranian State Museum will ensure that the fascinating world of Caspar David Friedrich can be experienced for everyone interested in art. The exhibition laughs at the curiosity of the visitors with an emotional introduction to his ideas. For further information you can look around the upcoming experience
