Greifswald celebrates 775 years: MV Day with music, fun and history!
There is currently a celebration in Greifswald, and not too little! The MV Day, which will take place from June 20th to 22nd, 2025, expresses the 775th city anniversary and the 35th anniversary of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in a very special way. Under the motto “Tradition, Innovation and Diversity”, the city center is divided into twelve adventure areas that provide plenty of entertainment for young and old. Visitors can look forward to a diverse stage program that includes everything from live concerts to exciting technology demonstrations. NDR and the official MV tag page provide valuable information.
The NDR Vorpommernstudio on Knopfstrasse is a hotspot that starts its program at 11 a.m. There are not only guided tours and technology demonstrations, but also a photo booth for unforgettable souvenir photos. The popular characters of Ernie and Bert as well as some KIKA characters will also be on site to delight the little visitors.
Stage program and experiences
The live concerts start on Friday evening with the warm-up party at 7 p.m. and a concert by Marquess at 9 p.m. Traditionally, Saturday opens at 11 a.m. with a concert by the MV State Police Orchestra. On Saturday evening, the MV day party with NDR 1 and the appearance of Joris will put you in a party mood. Another highlight on Sunday will be the opening concert by the state police orchestra, followed by the official opening by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and Greifswald's mayor Dr. Stefan Fassbinder at 12 p.m.
The other program items on Sunday include a rousing KiKa show with popular characters as well as presentations from the MV State Sports Association and an impressive choir and musical program from the Jahngymnasium Greifswald. For night owls there will be the big MV day party at 7.30 p.m. with NDR 1 and performances by 4FUN and Joris.
Cultural highlights and barrier-free access
The celebrations not only offer musical highlights. In addition to an ecumenical service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, visitors can also enjoy tours of the tower and church. Barrier-free accessibility is guaranteed - with special parking spaces and a ramp on the main stage, as well as sign language interpreters. As we can also learn, NDR 1 Radio MV will broadcast live on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 p.m. in order to make the festival tangible for an even larger community.
Important information about traffic restrictions and special trips for MV Day is available for everyone planning their journey. An exhibitor directory provides information about the various stands and experience areas that can be found during the festival. Efforts to ensure an unforgettable experience are visible at every point.
There are other cultural events leading up to the MV day that will fuel the anticipation. Due to the Greifswald anniversary, Caspar David Friedrich's 250th anniversary will also be celebrated comprehensively next year. With a look at the coming highlights, it remains to be said: Greifswald appears in new splendor!
