Over one million euros for strengthening democracy in Western Pomerania!

Over one million euros for strengthening democracy in Western Pomerania!

In northern Germany there are exciting news for the young people: The district of Vorpommern-Greifswald has launched a “partnership for democracy”. The aim of this initiative is to promote projects that strengthen democracy and at the same time actively integrate youth into society. According to Nordkurier are available up to 1.12 million euros until 2032. Every year, up to 140,000 euros can be applied for from federal funds, while the district contributes a share of around 15,600 euros.

In the rural areas of the district, such as in the official areas of Jarmen-Tutow, Peenetal/Loitz, Züssow, Landhagen and Usedom-Nord, non-profit organizations should primarily take the opportunity to implement exciting projects in child and youth work. These can range from readings to theater performances. The first advice to the accompanying committee already took place in the Jarmen town hall and the applications can be conveniently submitted digitally.

A look at the accompanying committees

The partnership is borne by an alliance of representatives of local administrations and civil society, which includes, among other things, a youth forum. This accompanying committee has the task of better networking and supporting people and organizations that are active in civil society. Particular attention is paid to the fact that applicants act as non -profit associations. So here is a broad citizen participation!

Another example of the commitment in youth promotion comes from the initiative Democracy Life , which, among other things, organizes the "Place for Diversity" sports festival. Here the focus is on inclusion so that children and adolescents can be active together regardless of their skills. A great program with sports stations and creative actions warmly welcomes visitors.

The role of EU youth programs

The commitment to democracy is not only promoted at local level, but also has a European dimension. The current impact report of Youth for Europe deal with topics such as democratic participation and social cohesion. It is particularly noteworthy that over two thirds of the participants show increased civil society engagement according to their projects.

An example from these programs is the #Democracy project and you, which motivates students in Germany to participate in political participation. Such initiatives make a valuable contribution to drawing attention to the importance of active participation and say in democracy.

Overall, it can be said: Investments in youth promotion and strengthening democracy are a step in the right direction. The citizens are challenged to get involved and shape them. So if you have ideas or want to move something yourself, you can now plunge to the new initiative of the district and bring your ideas!
