Construction site on B103: Traffic restrictions in Rostock from July 16th!

From July 16, 2025, drivers in the Rostock area will face some changes. Extensive construction work will then begin on the roadway of the B103 motorway feeder road, which is expected to last until August 5th. The affected section extends between the Kritzmow junction in the Rostock district and the A20, Rostock-West junction. During inspections, significant defects were discovered in the asphalt surface, which was only replaced in August 2024. These deficiencies must be urgently corrected by the responsible construction company in order to restore traffic safety. The closure also affects the entrances and exits from the Kritzmow junction towards the motorway, causing additional inconvenience for commuters.

While one lane in each direction remains open to traffic during the demolition and repair work, the Kritzmow junction is completely closed coming from the direction of Rostock-Warnemünde. To ensure that drivers can still reach their destination, two diversions are signposted:

  • Über die A20 bis zur Anschlussstelle Rostock-Südstadt, dann über die L132 Niendorf und den Südring in Rostock weiter zur Satower Straße (L10).
  • Von Kritzmow über Clausdorf (L10) bis zur Autobahn-Anschlussstelle Bad Doberan auf die A20.

The exit from the A20 coming from the direction of Stettin onto the B103 will also be closed for safety reasons and road users will be redirected back to the Bad Doberan junction. These measures are necessary to ensure that the deficiencies can be comprehensively checked and corrected. The road construction work not only affects traffic, but is also a preventative measure against possible future damage.

Renovation and costs

As early as August 2024, the asphalt surface of the motorway feeder road was renovated along a stretch of almost five kilometers, which also includes the entrance and exit ramps at the Kritzmow junction. These measures could not be avoided given the time of year, as heavy wear and tear and damage caused by cycles of thaw and frost in the winter months had to be taken into account beforehand. The planned total gross amount for these construction measures is around six million euros, with the Federal Republic of Germany bearing the costs. The contracts were awarded to the G. Papenburg (Grimmen) and STRABAG (Rostock) consortium.

Traffic between Rostock and the motorway will be maintained in one lane on the one-way carriageway during construction work, but drivers should definitely plan their journey in advance. One of the important tools for optimizing your journey is the ADAC Maps service, which shows real-time traffic flow and disruptions. The map services provide information about current construction sites and help with route planning so that you can quickly return to your usual routes and not get stuck in traffic jams. In the event of temporary restrictions, the limited diversions should also be kept in mind in order to keep the journey time as short as possible.

The responsible authorities ask for your understanding of the work required and advise you to plan your journey accordingly in order to avoid traffic jams. Because one thing is certain: with a good hand in planning you will reach your destination more safely!

For more information about traffic conditions and roadworks, those interested can visit the services ADAC Maps to use. The Stralsund Road Construction Authority also regularly issues updates on the construction site situation on the B103.

In view of the planned work and the massive changes in traffic flow, the affected drivers are urged to adapt to the new circumstances in good time. The usual traffic flow could be significantly influenced by the necessary regeneration, so keep your eyes open and drive through safely!

In summary, although the construction work is challenging, it is critical to the safety and longevity of the road infrastructure. The measures to repair the motorway access road are not only urgently needed, but also provide the region with longer-term benefits.
