U-20 handball players win against Poland: Coach Nordmeyer optimistic!

The German women's U-20 national handball team showed great performances in two test matches against Poland. In Stralsund, the team won convincingly 39:23 against the Polish guests on Friday. The following Saturday they continued their success and won in Neubrandenburg with 41:23. trainer Christopher Nordmeyer is very satisfied with the results and highlights the importance of these games with a view to the upcoming World Cup.

The first game took place in the local Vogelsanghalle, which offered a great backdrop with around 750 spectators. Nordmeyer, who also led the team to the historic U-19 European Championship in the summer, emphasized that the test match victories are important in order to optimally prepare the team for future challenges. This is particularly relevant as Germany won their first medal at the U-19 European Championships in Montenegro, defeating Spain, the reigning world champions, 34-27. This impressive comeback was duly acknowledged by the coach and those responsible for the German Handball Federation (DHB).

The offspring from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Interestingly, there are no players from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the current U-20 national team squad. Coach Nordmeyer explains that this is not due to the quality of the youth work in the region, but rather to the age group. However, he is optimistic that players from MV will soon be seen again in the national team. “A good hand” in selection can still be important here, as two players from younger years are in the extended squad, but cannot be invited to all courses.

Nordmeyer is convinced that the talented generation of U-19 players could make it into the senior national team. Ingo Meckes, DHB Sports Director, and President Andreas Michelmann have also emphasized this in the past and praised the team's development. This upward trend motivates the young players and brings a breath of fresh air into the German handball scene.

The catcher-friendly performances in Stralsund and Neubrandenburg are another sign of the positive development in German women's handball, which fills everyone involved with pride. Kicker continues to report on the upcoming international matches and the German team's chances on the international stage.

Finally, it remains to be hoped that the U-20 national team can build on these successful performances at the next World Cup and perhaps even write the next chapter in the success story of German women's handball.
