New train timetable: Faster ICE connections for MV from December!
The new train timetable for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania brings a lot of fresh air to the travel plans of train passengers. From December 14, 2023, travelers can look forward to expanded ICE offers, particularly to the popular holiday destinations of Rügen, Stralsund and Greifswald. Five ICE connections per day in each direction ensure almost a continuous cycle between these places and Frankfurt am Main, which makes the journey much easier for many. As the Northern Courier reported, the ICE line between Stralsund and Berlin will continue to operate every two hours.
The adjusted travel times include departures from Stralsund between 8:07 a.m. and 4:21 p.m., while arrivals in Frankfurt will take place from 11:37 a.m. to 7:46 p.m. A special highlight is the additional ICE, which travels directly from Frankfurt Airport to Stralsund on Sundays and arrives there at 9:40 p.m. There will also be significant improvements in Binz: Up to four ICE trips per day start or end directly in this charming lakeside town.
New connections from May 2026
But that's not all! From May 1, 2026, after extensive renovation work on the Hamburg-Berlin route, long-distance transport from Binz and Greifswald via Stralsund and Rostock to Hamburg will also be offered with later departure times. Travelers can then look forward to stops on the hour in Stralsund, Rostock and Schwerin, while the individual stops in Bad Kleinen will no longer be necessary. The first trip to Hamburg will start at 7:04 a.m. from Rostock - a time improvement for many commuters and travelers.
On the same day, July 11, 2026, a new short line will start between Hamburg and Berlin, which should be less prone to delays. This new offer will significantly improve the connection between Ludwigslust and Wittenberge to long-distance transport, with up to four additional stops per day in each direction. On July 11th, the popular IC2 double-decker trains will also be used on the Rostock-Berlin connection, which means around 170 additional seats per trip. Unfortunately, this means that the direct trains to Warnemünde are no longer available, but the connection via local trains remains.
BahnCard 25 for bargain hunters
The BahnCard 25 could be interesting for anyone who regularly uses the train. It offers a 25% discount on flexible, saver and super saver prices in the relevant car class. With this card, passengers can also save a lot on the new offers. The digital BahnCard can be used like a plastic card for various regional tariffs, and many transport associations support the discounts.
Overall, it appears that the new changes to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's rail timetable are promising and enable travelers to get from A to B more easily and flexibly. These adjustments are important not only for commuters, but also for tourists who want to discover the beauty of the northern German landscape.
Further information and details about the new connections are now available via the Baltic Sea newspaper and the DB navigator available. Regardless of whether it's for your next vacation or your daily commute to work - traveling by train will become even more attractive in the coming months!
