Future uncertain: State Game and Fish Days in Ludwigslust attract visitors!
This weekend it's that time again: the State Game and Fish Days in Ludwigslust are celebrating their 23rd edition on the historic Schlossplatz. This year, on September 20th and 21st, the motto of the event is “Enjoy regionally”. More than 50 exhibitors present a diverse range of game, fish and agricultural and food products. These regional specialties come from local traders and producers, making the event a celebration for all lovers of regional food while supporting the region's cultural identity.
The Ludwigslust-Parchim district is taking on the role of organizer for the first time this year, with the active support of the district hunting association as an ideal partner. Mayor Stefan Pinnow expressed that the city of Ludwigslust, through the building yard and its employees, is behind the event. This support is particularly important as there have been declines in the state hunting association's commitment in recent years, which could jeopardize the future of the event.
A festive program for everyone
With an estimated number of visitors between 5,000 and 8,000 from near and far, a colorful program is on offer. Specialist lectures and musical contributions are on the agenda. Moderated by Norbert Bosse, the stage directly in front of the castle offers an informal and entertaining supporting program. The event will be ceremoniously opened on Saturday at 11 a.m., with greetings from District Administrator Stefan Sternberg, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Till Backhaus and the mayor.
The highlights include a daily cooking show from the GASTRO initiative “This is how MV tastes”, which shows visitors how regional products can be prepared. Hunting horn blowing and interesting expert talks also invite you to find out more about regional resources and healthy nutrition.
The challenges for the future
Despite all the anticipation for the event, the organizers are facing challenges. Funding remains a pressing issue as many associations struggle with limited resources. The increased marketing of regional products is particularly important. In Germany, the level of self-sufficiency in agricultural products is low, which is due to the dependence on imports of fruit, vegetables and honey. This is where the event sets an example: it promotes partnerships between producers and consumers and shows how important it is to support and consume local products bzfe.
The next two years will be crucial for the State Game and Fish Days, because Ludwigslust is celebrating a big city anniversary next year and will host the MV Day in 2027. District hunter master Wilfried Röpert and Michael Kuhn from the district hunting association are optimistic about the future. With the right support, the event could not only be preserved, but also develop and introduce future generations to the regional culture and cuisine.
