Cultural highlights in Neubrandenburg: operetta, cinema and readings!

There are exciting days ahead in Neubrandenburg: On July 17th, the city council will meet and will dedicate itself to the addendum to the economic plan of Theater and Orchestra GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz (tog) for 2025. It is expected that the company will be missing more than six million euros by 2028. To counteract this, the four-gate city is planning to step in with a shareholder contribution of almost 1.4 million euros, which is of great importance for the cultural landscape of the region. At the meeting, which begins at 3 p.m. in the House of Culture and Education, a proposal from the CDUplus parliamentary group to extend the platforms at Neubrandenburg train station earlier is also on the table. A clear sign of how important the connection to local cultural experiences is.

The coming weeks in Neubrandenburg are a real cultural highlight. The Hans Fallada Days will take place in Carwitz from July 18th to 20th, a homage to the famous writer with readings, lectures, exhibitions and theater productions. Well-known guests such as Helga Schubert, Bernd Lutz Lange and Elie Levy have confirmed their attendance. A special highlight will be the film “Kuhle Wampe”, which will be shown as part of the 20th Carwitz Museum Night.

Cultural events in summer

The premiere of the operetta “The Circus Princess” on July 18th in Neustrelitz raises high expectations. With star guest Lea Toran Jenner, the Cyr-Rad world champion, the performance promises to be an unforgettable experience. There are a total of 13 performances on the program until August 9th, so there is something for everyone. The organizers are also offering a ten percent discount on tickets for Nordkurier Day on July 26th - a good reason not to miss this summer event.

Another treat awaits cinema fans in the Neubrandenburg Cultural Park: the folding chair cinema will be held from July 18th to 20th. As part of the city's 777th anniversary, films are being shown in the open air, creating a unique atmosphere. The program is diverse, from the horror night with “Get Out” to a family cinema with “The School of Magical Animals 3” to a US blockbuster. The very best? Admission to all screenings is free. However, you should note that glass bottles are not allowed on the premises. It's also worth bringing a picnic basket to enjoy the film screenings in style.

Financing culture

A solid cultural foundation is crucial, and this applies not only to Neubrandenburg, but to all of Germany. In 2020, 14.5 billion euros were spent on culture nationwide, which corresponds to a remarkable increase of 55 percent since 2010, as reported by the Federal Agency for Civic Education. The majority of these funds come from municipalities and states, which together cover 77.7 percent of cultural expenditure. It turns out that culture not only plays a role in leisure activities, but also represents an essential pillar of social life.

With the ongoing discussion about grants and financial support for cultural institutions, it is clear that despite the challenges that the cultural sector is going through, the commitment and willingness to support remains unbroken. The preparations and planning in Neubrandenburg show that they are aware of this responsibility and plan to offer culture a platform even in difficult times. A good hand in cultural policy is required – both locally and nationally.

Overall, July will be an exciting month for all culture enthusiasts in the region. Whether readings, theater performances or cinema experiences, there is something here for every taste. And most importantly: the doors are open to gain unforgettable experiences and celebrate the culture in all its diversity.
