Neubrandenburg athletes celebrate triumphs at the 2025 Air Base Run!

The 27th edition of the air base run took place in Trollenhagen on July 19, 2025, and the athletes from Neubrandenburg were able to shine again. Numerous endurance athletes took part in a competition organized by the Bundeswehr and Flughafen Neubrandenburg GmbH and once again showed that the run has a permanent place in the regional sports calendar. Over 110 participants from Neubrandenburg, Greifswald, Neustrelitz, Ueckermünde, Altentreptow and Waren took part and made for an exciting race.

The performance of the Neubrandenburg athletes could not be overlooked. Jeannette Kiesow from HSV secured victory in the main run over 10 kilometers in the W45 age group with an impressive time of 47:18 minutes. Olaf Henkel from SV Turbine also left nothing to be desired among the men in the M50 age group and ran the route in 36:43 minutes. Both Kiesow and Henkel proved that they have a good knack for competition.

On the shorter 3-kilometer route, the winners also ran for SV Turbine. Malte Senger (MU18) crossed the finish line after 10:21 minutes, while Katja Knospe (W55) crossed the finish line in 13:30 minutes. A special highlight was the 400 meter children's run, which encouraged the youngest children to take part.

A significant event for the region

The event looks back on an eventful history. The air base run has already been canceled three times: after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and twice during the corona pandemic. The former chief organizer Ralf Klein, who has been retired since May, actively helped with the preparations and should be happy about the successful competition.

Sport has a crucial importance for our well-being. Studies show that playing sports increases both physical and psychological well-being. According to a survey, around 70 percent of Germans rate their health as good or very good. On the other hand, it is clear that lack of exercise, especially in low-income countries, represents a serious risk. Nevertheless, over 80 percent of Germans say they exercise regularly for their health. This also includes the air base run, which offers a great opportunity to exercise in the community and increase your own fitness. The promotion of sporting activities is becoming increasingly important for society as a whole in order to enable the health benefits for many people.
