Summer spectacle Cabaret: emotions and extravagance in the theater!
The Kit-Kat Club is open again in the Neubrandenburg Schauspielhaus and is launching the second edition of the musical “Cabaret”. The Theater and Orchestra GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz is bringing the summer spectacle back to the stage after its success in 2024. In this new edition, which runs until July 11, the new emcee Philipp Mauritz particularly stands out, captivating the audience with his charming appearance and gripping communication. Next to him, Josefin Ristau shines as Sally Bowles and captivates everyone with her singing and dancing performances.
The plot of the musical takes place in the glamorous yet chaotic atmosphere of Berlin in the 1920s, when the American writer Clifford Bradshaw (Robert Will) comes to the country to collect material for his novel. On New Year's Eve, Clifford visits the legendary Kit Kat Club, where he meets English nightclub singer Sally Bowles. A passionate but complicated relationship develops between the two as the political tensions of the Weimar Republic continue to rise. Clifford is horrified by the rise of fascism, but also exerts influence on Sally, who would rather live life to the fullest and without political analysis.
Tension and emotions
Maik Priebe's acting direction brings a successful mix of emotions and surprises to the stage. The conflict between personal happiness and social pressure is particularly grippingly portrayed. A moving moment culminates when Clifford shouts: "Berlin is over. It was quite fun, but it's over" before returning to the USA. During this time it also becomes clear how the characters in the musical - especially the emcee and the Kit Kat Girls - cleverly try to adapt to the changing political environment.
The role of the kind-hearted fruit seller Mr. Schultz, who spoils his landlady Miss Schneider with exotic fruits, is also discussed. In the face of rising anti-Semitism, the love between the two is put to a severe test, while Miss Schneider has to make an important decision regarding her wedding to Mr. Schultz. This creates a tense mix of personal fates and social upheavals.
A part of musical history
“Cabaret” is more than just an entertaining musical. It is part of the rich history of musicals in Germany, which began primarily during the Weimar Republic, when American revues and variety shows took over the stage. The success of the genre has increased steadily since then and has become particularly established in cities such as Hamburg and Stuttgart. When you think of musicals, performances like “CATS” are an important reference point, which made the country the musical capital, as ATG Tickets reports.
With a live band led by Thomas Möckel, the quality of the musical is further underlined by catchy melodies and powerful performances. The audience agrees: The combination of singing, dancing and acting makes “Cabaret” an unforgettable experience. Anyone interested in this rousing performance should hurry up to get tickets, as the piece has quickly won a place in the hearts of the audience.
The Neubrandenburger Schauspielhaus and the Theater und Orchestra GmbH have once again put together a fiery and unconventional summer spectacle that stimulates thought and inspires at the same time - and that is no easy task.
