Theater premiere in Volkow: Chaos and laughter with The Art of Comedy”!

On July 5th at 7 p.m. the time has finally come: The amateur theater group “The Invisibles” celebrates its premiere in the Wolkow Theaterscheune. After a successful past year in which the performances were mostly sold out, the actors and the audience are looking forward to the performance of the play “The Art of Comedy” by Eduardo De Filippo, a work from 1964. The group has developed over the years from Loriot sketches to expressive plays and now attracts a paying audience from the region.

The action of the play takes place in a small Italian provincial town. Here a new prefect, De Caro, is causing a stir. Misunderstandings and a troupe of jugglers' quest to gain financial support are at the heart of the narrative, using the audience's laughter to illuminate deeper themes. Renowned ensemble with players like Christiane Salomon, who plays a waitress, and Hermann Kleindienst, known as a veterinarian in the region, ensures the implementation of the hilarious scenes. Stephanie Günter, who embodies De Caro, brings a special zest to the performance with her seven years of experience in the group. René Kirschey, who has directed the group since it was founded in 2005, promises an entertaining show.

A look at the theater landscape

What makes amateur acting so special? The term describes theatrical performances that are staged by non-professionally trained, usually unpaid actors. This highlights the sense of community and the fun of the game. Amateur theater is often an expression of middle-class theater culture that has no church ties and takes place in community halls, taverns or schools, similar to the tradition of folk theater. In summary, it can be seen that amateur acting has deep roots in German-speaking countries and has developed various approaches, ranging from private performances to professional productions, such as Wikipedia notes.

The “Invisibles” are not alone in their mission. Her colleagues in Berlin, led by Sabina Riedel, also offer a loving and creative environment for theater impressions without pressure to perform. The focus here is on social aspects such as breaking down negative beliefs and promoting talent. All ages are welcome, and creative ideas are heard as the group decides on pieces together. Their successes, including the performances of “Schöne Bescherungen” or Loriot’s sketches, show the diversity and passion of amateur acting.

Looking forward to the performances

The theater group “The Invisibles” has planned a total of five performances for this year, the last of which will take place on September 20th. Despite the challenges that the Corona pandemic brought with it, in the form of self-doubt and tension among the actors, they show themselves determined and excited in front of their audience. The stage fright that all actors feel highlights the appreciation for the audience's applause and feedback. With a two-year rhythm of performances, the group not only manages to reach the local community, but also attract national audiences.

So if you want to experience an entertaining evening with lots of laughter and emotional moments, you shouldn't miss the premiere of “The Invisibles”. A piece that not only celebrates the art of comedy, but also makes the passion of amateur acting in Northern Germany tangible.
