Champagne theft in Parchim: man caught with 20 bottles!

A strange incident occurred in Parchim, more precisely in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district: a 38-year-old man tried to steal 20 bottles of champagne from a supermarket on Tuesday, September 24, 2025. The incident took place late Tuesday afternoon and was discovered through the watchful eyes of the store detective, who followed the thief's restless movements on the video cameras.

The man, who had prepared his backpack with a special anti-theft device, was stopped as he left the store without paying. The police were immediately informed and took over the situation by arresting the suspect and searching him. The 20 bottles of different types of champagne came to light, the total value of which is over 600 euros star reported.

Scheming thief strategy

The image of a man packing a backpack with stolen hard liquor is not an everyday sight. Again NDR further reported, the perpetrator could not escape the video surveillance with his subtle tactics. The bottles were returned to the supermarket undamaged, and the backpack, the weapon used in the crime, was seized by officers. The investigation against the man is ongoing and he was also sent off to prevent further incidents.

As a recent study shows, the number of shopliftings in German stores is increasing. Mirror reports that particularly high-priced goods, such as champagne, are often the targets of thieves. The motivations are complex, and in times of economic uncertainty, more people appear to be resorting to such illegal means to make ends meet.

It remains uncertain whether the 38-year-old was really aware of his actions or whether he acted in a desperate situation. What is certain, however, is that his “bargain” at the supermarket was anything but a successful deal and the consequences will probably have serious consequences for him.
