Classical music in space: Concerts connect generations in Parchim and Ueckermünde!
The Neue Philharmonie MV is on an exciting journey that combines classical music and science fiction. Under the direction of conductor Andreas Schulz, the orchestra brings musical highlights to surprising places in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Stadt.Land.Klassik concert series with the motto “Off into space” has currently attracted many visitors to Parchim, Demmin and Ueckermünde. Well-known pieces from science fiction films such as *Star Trek*, *E.T.*, *Star Gate* and of course *Star Wars* are performed. This not only delights sci-fi fans, but also brings entire families together in a festive atmosphere. Ramona Armbrust, for example, is a passionate Star Trek fan, while her husband Sven is a huge Star Wars fan. They attended such a concert with their daughter Charlotte and appreciated the harmonious atmosphere.
With a number of players of over 50 musicians, including string instruments and harps, the orchestra promises high sound quality. Cross-generational enthusiasm is the hallmark of these concerts, as numerous feedback from visitors shows. The next performance will take place tomorrow, November 20th, in Neubrandenburg, also under the motto “Off to space!” with a family concert at 3:30 p.m. and an evening concert at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Neubrandenburger Medienhaus as well as by phone and online.
The fascination of music in science fiction
A fundamental part of the appeal of these concerts is the combination of music and science fiction. Together, these art forms create immersive, imaginary worlds that stimulate the human imagination. Music reinforces the atmosphere of the film narratives and has a central function in characterizing futuristic themes and technologies. As summarized in The Voices of Fandom, music enhances emotional impact and helps create memorable soundscapes in sci-fi films.
An outstanding example of this connection is the music of John Williams, who has already received two Academy Awards for his compositions. His famous *Star Wars* film music has been developed further since the first episode and has not only established itself as a theme tune, but has also been enriched with new themes for the multitude of characters. Georges Lucas consciously chose a large-scale symphonic style rather than experimental electronic music, and Williams' skill allows viewers to feel immersed in the epic story. An analysis at Your Classical shows, among other things, how Richard Wagner and Gustav Holst shaped Williams' compositional style and how the melodies of *Star Wars* fuse numerous musical influences to create a unique listening experience.
Classical music has thus established itself as an indispensable part of science fiction, maintaining a symbiotic relationship with the telling of these fascinating stories for decades. With every concert in the current series, this connection comes to life, and numerous visitors experience the magic of music in a new light.
