Rostock's Juni-Babys: These 41 newborns have extraordinary names!
In the Südstadt Clinic Rostock, a total of 41 births were recorded last week from June 16 to 23, 2025, including two twin pairs. Exactly 43 babies saw the light of the world - 20 girls and 23 boys. The special names that were given to these little new rustockers include Alice Athena, who saw the light of day on June 13th at 10:13 p.m. in Broderstorf, and Meeri Luise, born on June 22nd at 9:15 p.m. in Kavelstorf. For the new parents, the choice of name is often a very special moment that reveals a lot about their wishes and hopes.
With 911 births since the beginning of the year, the clinic record shows a slight decline compared to the previous year, in which 935 babies were born. The distribution of the sexes only rises slightly: so far, 466 girls and 471 boys have been born. This reflects the continuous popularity of the clinic, which was the largest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2023, even if the overall numbers have decreased somewhat compared to 2022, which Dr. Kerstin Hagen, the senior senior doctor, explained with an intensive year and renovation work.
special occurrences in the clinic
The year 2023 was not only shaped by renovation work, but also by special births. A premature baby was born with 1,140 grams in the 26th week of pregnancy and received an impressive free helicopter flight to Potsdam. At the same time, 64 twin couples and a triplet, which consisted of three boys, were welcomed in the clinic. This statistics are in accordance with the nationwide trends of multiple births. According to an analysis by the Federal Statistical Office, around 18 twin births are registered in Germany for 1,000 births, which shows an increase compared to the past decades.
The clinic strives to offer expectant parents the best possible service. This includes the BabylotenSenprojekt, which has existed since July 2022. Here, trained Babylots are at the side of the families as contact persons to facilitate the transition to being a parent. The online booking for baby swimming courses also relieves and offers a playful way for parents to spend their newborns in the water.
outlook for the future
A look into the future also shows the introduction of an Instagram account for midwives to improve communication with expectant parents. Information evenings that take place once a month offer additional space for questions and information about birth. The first date in 2024 begins on January 8, and it remains to be seen how many babies will see the light of day.
The Südstadt Clinic with its extensive care and modernized institutions remains a popular address for expectant parents in the region. The progress in neonatology and close cooperation with the pediatric surgery of the University Medical Center Rostock ensure that the little ones are well looked after.
