Drinking water pipe damaged: Leonhardstrasse closed from tomorrow!

In the Rostock KTV, construction work is in full swing following damage to the drinking water pipe. According to the information from Rostock town hall Leonhardstrasse, especially the section at number 20, will be closed from September 30th. This is done to determine the cause of the damage and make the necessary repairs.

The existing one-way street regulation on Leonhardstrasse will be temporarily lifted. This also applies to Barnstorfer Weg, where a signposted diversion is provided. The exact extent of the damage to the drinking water pipe can only be assessed once the work has begun. The city expects the construction work to be completed by the middle of next week at the latest.

Traffic restrictions in the region

This means some restrictions for residents and road users. Those too Rostock today reports on other construction sites in the city. There have been traffic restrictions on Satower Straße since January 13, 2025 due to work on a damaged drinking water pipe, which is expected to last until the end of January. There was a significant backlog in the intersection area near the Lidl market, which the city administration cannot sugarcoat.

During this hectic time, Nordwasser, the water supplier with a wide portfolio of projects, announced that central construction work had also started on an important canal in Werftstrasse. This is all about the comprehensive renewal of pipes and canals to help improve the water supply.

Repairs and construction work on main transport pipelines

Nordwasser GmbH also has to deal with another major problem: a burst pipe on a main transport pipeline in Rövershagen also brings challenges. From September 8th, extensive construction work will be required on the B105, where only one lane will be available in both directions. A roadworks traffic light will regulate traffic and a diversion will be signposted via the B110 and L191, meaning road users should expect longer journey times, it has been confirmed Northern Courier.

This large number of construction sites shows how important it is for the city to invest in modern infrastructure. Around 310 employees of Nordwasser GmbH supply around 270,000 people in Rostock and the surrounding communities with drinking water and take care of wastewater treatment. Citizens can find out about current developments on construction sites and retraining on the Nordwasser website.

Despite the actual disruption, residents in the affected areas are confident that the work will be completed quickly and professionally. Because anyone who takes care of drinking water supply and wastewater not only has a good knack for technology, but also ensures that security of supply is a top priority.
