Touching science: Young researchers inspire bars in Rostock!

in Rostock something is happening - and not just in the research institutions! A fresh series of events called "Wellen length Science on Tour" brings young scientists and interested citizens together. On Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. we start in the craft bar on Margarethenstrasse. A cool drink treats exciting topics that make the world of science tangible.

The special thing about it? Not only students are invited, but also young people who make their way into the professional world. [NDR] reports that the first contributions come from a bird curator of the Rostock Zoo, who talks about the protection of sand rain whistles and other bird species. In addition, doctoral students from the research institute for livestock biology will show how calves can grow up healthy. A doctoral student at the University of Rostock will educate how hearing children of deaf people learn to speak.

The dialogue between science and society

The concern behind this series of events is clear: it is about promoting interest in scientific topics and looking for dialogue with the public. After all, science is not only for the experts, but for each of us. Science communication plays a central role in this, especially when it comes to presenting complex topics understandable and attractive. An online course from the University of Rostock supports scientists in designing their messages in such a way that they are understandable even without specialist knowledge. [Uni Rostock] emphasizes that such events and courses help to create a better understanding of scientific topics, to strengthen trust in science and to promote public debate.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) calls on research institutions to make their knowledge of society understandable. [DFG] sees the task of publicly funded research in creating more transparency and intensifying the exchange between science and citizens. This initiative not only supports the understanding of science, but also promotes its influence on social decision -making processes.

an admission that cannot be worthwhile!

And the best thing about it? Entry to the “Wavelength Science on Tour” events is free of charge. The association "[Rostock thinks 365 °]" is the organizer of this exciting series and hopes to create a permanent place for the exchange between science and interested parties.

If you want to learn more about the challenges and achievements of current research and at the same time to enjoy a sociable get -together with like -minded people, you should paint this appointment in the calendar.
