Science you can touch: Young researchers inspire in Rostock bars!
Something is happening in Rostock – and not just in the research institutions! A fresh series of events called “Wavelength Science ON TOUR” brings together young scientists and interested citizens. It starts on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the CraftBar on Margarethenstrasse. Exciting topics that make the world of science tangible are discussed over a cool drink.
What’s special about it? Not only students are invited, but also young people who are setting off into the professional world. [NDR] reports that the first contributions come from a bird curator at the Rostock Zoo, who talks about the protection of ringed plovers and other bird species. In addition, doctoral students from the Research Institute for Livestock Biology will show how calves can grow up healthily. A doctoral student from the University of Rostock will explain how hearing children learn to speak from deaf people.
The dialogue between science and society
The aim behind this series of events is clear: it is about promoting interest in scientific topics and seeking dialogue with the public. After all, science is not just for the experts, but for each of us. Science communication plays a central role, especially when it comes to presenting complex topics in an understandable and attractive way. An online course from the University of Rostock supports scientists in designing their messages in such a way that they can be understood even without specialist knowledge. [Uni Rostock] emphasizes that such events and courses help to create a better understanding of scientific topics, strengthen trust in science and promote public debate.
The German Research Foundation (DFG) calls on research institutions to make their findings understandable to society. [DFG] sees the task of publicly funded research as creating more transparency and intensifying the exchange between science and citizens. This initiative not only supports the understanding of science, but also promotes its influence on social decision-making processes.
An entrance fee that can't be worth it!
And the best part? Admission to the “Wavelength Science ON TOUR” events is free. The association “[Rostock thinks 365°]” is the organizer of this exciting series and hopes to create a permanent place for exchange between science and interested parties.
If you would like to find out more about the challenges and achievements of current research and at the same time enjoy a social gathering with like-minded people, you should mark this date in red on your calendar. It's an opportunity not to be missed - after all, science is not just theory, it can be very lively and engaging!
