a hotel with history
The Rügen Hotel has a long history that goes back to 1969 when it opened as "Mitropa Rügen-Hotel Saßnitz". In the 1960s, ferry traffic on the royal line between Sassnitz and Trelleborg experienced a rapid upswing, and the impressive building was built by a Swedish construction company. Today the hotel is owned by the Raulff family and is very popular with holidaymakers. It not only offers an in-house Rügen-Therme and a restaurant area called "Neptune", but also a panoramic café with a wonderful view of the sea. The history of the house shows that parts of the GDR charm have been preserved to this day.
The importance of Rügen as a holiday region has developed over the centuries. The island, which was already populated in the Stone Age, offered various changes of rule over time, among other things Rügen was both Swedish and Prussian. From 1952 Rügen became part of Rostock, and after the reunification in 1990 the island became part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Despite her eventful history, Rügen has developed as one of the most popular holiday destinations, especially for guests from East Germany.
