Vacationer films mysterious submarine off Rügen – sparking controversy!
An unexpected spectacle at the harbor area in Sassnitz on Rügen caused excitement among locals and holidaymakers. The holidaymaker René Baier from Saxony-Anhalt filmed a submarine that was being escorted by the coast guard under the escort ship “HDW Herkules”. He published this video on Facebook, but it was a thorn in the side of the platform: Shortly afterwards, his profile was blocked for 24 hours, supposedly“security reasons”. The Coast Guard primarily tried to shield the discovery in vain reports the Nordkurier.
Baier reported that many onlookers showed curiosity - hardly anyone would have thought that such military equipment could be seen directly off the coast. According to the water police, it was a training trip for a new submarine that comes from ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems GmbH. This company, a leading provider of non-nuclear submarines and naval vessels, did not want to disclose the exact details of the submarine because military information is subject to strict secrecy reports NDR.
An explosive discovery
The submarine that Baier filmed is said to be of the “Drakon” type, a model of the Dolphin submarine manufactured for the Israeli military. Journalist Frank Behling identified it as such and pointed out that the submarine began its first test voyage in Kiel on July 24th. Test trips are currently taking place between Rügen and Bornholm in order to practice surfacing and submerging as well as participating in maritime traffic. Stress and weapon tests are also planned in later phases says Marine Forum.
The remarkable technology used in these submarines makes them the most advanced in the world. The type 218SG not only has a drive that is independent of outside air to extend the diving time, but is also 70 meters long and displaces around 2,000 tons. These new developments promise to significantly modernize military and naval operations in the international context.
Consequences for the holiday helper
Baier's unwanted notoriety was not without consequences. He has received numerous inquiries from media outlets across Germany since his video was released, and even his employer was contacted to ask for more information. His son expressed concern, fearing that Baier could be arrested during a visit to the Hanse Sail. This situation sheds light on the unique challenges and security considerations associated with publishing sensitive content, particularly at a time when protecting military information is of paramount importance.
In short, a harmless holiday by the sea turned into an exciting and explosive story that not only aroused the public's interest, but also illuminated current issues of secrecy and military activities in the Baltic Sea. In the meantime, the city of Neubrandenburg must continue to create new school places, and the DLRG lifeguards also had their hands full getting bathers out of the water. Meanwhile, a good potato harvest is expected in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - the harbingers of autumn prosperity.
