Insight into Israel: Photo exhibition opens in Schwerin Castle!

A special photo exhibition entitled “Israel Insight” will open in Schwerin on Wednesday, October 8th. The exhibition in the castle museum shows around 40 photographs, which are presented both in traditional form and audiovisually. The photographer Max-Stefan Koslik, former deputy editor-in-chief of the Schweriner Volkszeitung, captured a unique view of the lives of Jewish Israelis, Muslims and Christians in Israel. Koslik himself spent a quarter of a year in the Dormition Abbey on Mount Zion in Jerusalem and was paralyzed in front of the camera.

As [nordkurier.de](https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/Schwerin/umstreite-israel- exhibition-im-Schweriner-schloss-zu-sicht-3976048) reports, the exhibition was originally planned for June at the Ministry of Finance, but had to be postponed for security reasons. The CDU in the state parliament then offered its rooms as a new exhibition location. Finance Minister Heiko Geue (SPD) emphasizes how important the exhibition is for the Jewish community in Germany. A vernissage that is both exciting and moving can be expected, at which, among others, Carl Kreßmann, national spokesman for the German-Israeli Society, will have his say.

A look at current developments

The importance of the exhibition has become even more explosive due to recent events in Israel. On Saturday, October 7, the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas attacked Israel with massive rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. An estimated 1,000 fighters entered Israeli territory and attacked villages, kibbutzim and a music festival. According to the Israeli government, more than 1,300 people were killed, along with numerous others injured. In addition, Hamas kidnapped at least 199 people, including some German nationals, as reported by bpb.de.

Amid these dramatic developments, interreligious dialogue plays a crucial role. The Israelite Religious Community and the Jewish communities in Germany are actively committed to respectful exchange with other religious communities. The aim is to promote good social interaction. Projects such as the “Brotherhood Week” and numerous cultural events in various cities show how important dialogue between religions is. Local groups such as the group “Abraham's Daughters” or the Interreligious Working Group Offenburg have an important role to play in promoting peace and tolerance, as irg-baden.de makes clear.

Open doors until November

The “Israel Insight” exhibition will be open to the public until November 5th. Visitors therefore have enough time to look at the impressive photographs and engage with the different facets of life in Israel. State Parliament President Birgit Hesse supports the presentation in the state parliament and sees this cultural contribution as an opportunity to promote understanding and exchange between cultures. Admission is free and the exhibition will be open after the opening from 5 p.m.

In times like these, when conflict and unrest dominate the news, intercultural exchange is even more important. With its initiative, Schwerin shows that art and dialogue can build bridges.
