The pre-Christmas season is beginning in Schwerin and with it a wealth of festive events that will transform the city into a true winter wonderland from December 5th to 7th, 2025. During this period, visitors can expect a varied program that will get them in the mood for the upcoming holidays with music, art and contemplative markets. Again Northern Courier reports, Friday, December 5th, begins with a “winter safari” at Schwerin Zoo, which starts at 4 p.m. At 8 p.m. the musical comedy “Haui – Traces in the Sand” continues in Speicher Schwerin, where the artist Haui will delight the audience together with Peter Engelhardt. At Klangwert/werk3, Hans Sagert and Hagen Schulz-Zachow will give a concert entitled “HansHagen” at 8 p.m. The evening ends in the M8 with black music, presented by DJs Van Tell and Joker from 10 p.m.
But Saturday, December 6th, also has a lot to offer. Children and families can look forward to Santa Claus in the Railway and Technology Museum, where gifts will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the historic walls of the throne room in Schwerin Castle come to life at the Advent concert of the Collegium musicum Schwerin, conducted by Christian Münch-Cordellier. The exhibition “8 extended portraits” at the Kunstverein Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania opens at 6 p.m. and offers an exciting insight into contemporary art. The celebrations as part of the Frankenhorst Christmas market also invite you to the Best Western Seehotel Frankenhorst on both days, where culinary delicacies and handicrafts are on offer. The evening will be rounded off with the Julvisor concert at 8 p.m. in Speicher Schwerin and a St. Nicholas party in Club Zenit at 10 p.m.
A magical Sunday
The final day, December 7th, begins with Christmas in the Schelfkirche Schwerin with “Swinging Christmas” and Andreas Pasternack, who delights the guests with his melodies at 5 p.m. From 7 p.m., the sports and congress hall will become the stage for a concert with Toni Krahl and the KINX, who will present a combination of well-known city hits and new solo material.
Of course, the Christmas markets in Schwerin cannot go unmentioned, which have been taking place on the Old Town Market Square and the Schlachtermarkt since November 24th to December 23rd, 2025. Here, visitors can taste culinary specialties such as mulled wine, punch and baked apples in festively decorated stalls and admire the handmade products of the artisans. A daily highlight is Santa Claus' consultation hours on the cultural stage as well as the numerous activities in the Stadtwerke fairytale tent, where creative children can live out their talents by painting and baking. The fairytale tent is open Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., although it will be closed on December 12th, according to the website Schwerin Christmas market explained.
