Technical defect: Fire brigade operation triggered at Schwerin Chamber of Industry and Commerce!
On Tuesday, a technical defect in the fire alarm system at the Schwerin Chamber of Industry and Commerce led to the fire department and police being called into action. Um5:19 p.mthe alarm went into the rescue control center. The emergency services were immediately called to the building complex on Graf-Schack-Allee. But a look at the scene revealed that the situation was already under control: the building was completely evacuated by the time the police arrived and the street was closed as a precaution. Ultimately, however, the fire department did not have to intervene because no dangers were identified when the emergency services arrived. Um5:45 p.mIt was officially confirmed that the alarm was triggered by a technical defect, which is not unusual in such cases.
A similar incident occurred onJanuary 31, 2025in Goslar, where two fire alarm systems in a furniture store and a neighboring technology store sounded the alarm almost simultaneously. A technical defect was also the cause of the excitement here. In this case, too, the emergency services did not need to act because no fire could be detected. This shows that technical malfunctions in fire alarm systems are not uncommon and preventive measures continue to be of great importance. Resetting the sprinkler system in the furniture store caused some difficulties, which extended the duration of the operation, but safety was ultimately guaranteed here too.
Technical defects and fire hazards
Technical defects are one of the most common causes of alarms in connection with fire alarm systems. This is highlighted by several fire safety incidents in Germany. There have recently been several devastating fire incidents in fire stations that were caused by technical defects. In Stadtallendorf, a new fire station was almost completely destroyed in October 2024, resulting in a material loss of over20 million eurosresulted. Here too, a technical defect, particularly in a fire engine, was suspected as the cause of the fire. Many of these incidents could potentially be prevented through the use of modern fire alarm systems and effective protective measures.
Another example occurred in January 2025 in Treffurt, where a fire severely damaged five fire engines and the associated equipment shed. These incidents illustrate the urgency of preventive measures in the fire service sector to counteract such damage. A lack of a nationwide statistical concept for fires in fire stations makes it almost impossible to get an exact picture of the danger situation. Experts are therefore calling for increased training for firefighters and the implementation of modern technologies, such as Cell phone smoke detector, for early fire detection.
Those responsible agree: It is high time to establish more comprehensive safety standards in both the maintenance and technical equipment of fire engines and fire stations. Initiatives are needed to ensure the readiness of the armed forces regardless of technical disruptions and thus to better protect our community in an emergency.
