Traffic chaos in Schwerin: construction work and festivals cause traffic jams!
In the coming days, traffic in Schwerin will be put to the test, as there are several construction sites and a big event coming up. Road users have to prepare for restrictions, as nordkurier.de reports.
The focus is particularly on the Stadtwerke beach festival, which is taking place this Saturday and Sunday. To mark this occasion, there will be extensive closures on Bosselmannstrasse and Alte Dorfstrasse. On Saturday these are affected from 10 a.m. to midnight and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, drivers can park in the right lane into the city on Crivitzer Chaussee between Plater Straße and Am Grünen Tal, which will be possible from 9 a.m. on Saturday to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Renovation of the sidewalks
From Monday, July 14th, further construction work will be on the agenda: the renovation of the sidewalk on Obotritenring will begin. In the Obotritenring/Wittenburger Straße intersection, the lane leading into the city will be reduced to around 30 meters, which will inevitably lead to traffic disruptions. These measures are expected to last until August 22nd, as Schwerin.de highlights.
From the same day, repair work will also be carried out on the southern sidewalk between house numbers 108 and 132 and from Platz der Freiheit to Obotritenring on Lübecker Straße. Here too, diversions and restrictions for pedestrians are to be expected, who will be redirected to the opposite side of the street.
Repair work on Ludwigsluster Chaussee
In addition, repair work is also planned on Ludwigsluster Chaussee from July 16th to 18th. The pedestrian and cycle path between Krösnitz Street and Ostorfer Ufer Street will be completely closed during this time. A diversion via the “Auf dem Dwang” road will be set up to minimize disruption.
The SDS company appeals to road users to take the restrictions into account when planning their routes and to be patient. Similar to other cities, such as Münster, road users are advised to regularly check current closures and diversions in order to avoid waiting times and detours, including ms-aktuell.de.
Overall, the ongoing construction work in Schwerin is a necessary evil for the long-term improvement of the infrastructure. It remains to be hoped that road users will be able to deal with the challenges well and that we will soon be able to benefit from improved routes.
