West Mecklenburg is booming: 6% more training positions than applicants!
There currently seems to be a positive turnaround in the training market in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. According to the Schwerin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), 645 training contracts have already been signed for the coming training year. That is over six percent more than in the previous year, when around 600 contracts were concluded. This means there are four apprenticeships for every three young people. A positive signal in times when the shortage of skilled workers is becoming noticeable in many industries. NDR reports about it.
The growth is particularly strong in the areas of metal technology and trade. Companies have increasingly recognized that they have to train themselves in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers. Peter Todt, the general manager of the IHK, emphasizes that West Mecklenburg is developing prosperously, especially in the area of modern industry, which includes both the food industry and mechanical engineering.
Training in metal technology
There are a variety of training positions in the field of metal technology—for example at SPITZKE SE, which operates in the area of rail-based mobility. Training to become a metal technology specialist not only imparts basic skills in construction technology, assembly technology or machining technology, but also brings with it know-how in dealing with modern technologies such as robots and virtual reality applications. The job description includes, among other things, testing metal properties, working on CNC machines and adhering to strict safety regulations complements Bildungs.de.
Another highlight are the intensive practical components that characterize the dual training. The trainees spend part of their time at the vocational school, where topics such as manufacturing processes, safety and quality assurance are covered. In the first year of training you can expect a gross salary of around 981 to 1,154 euros per month, which rises to 1,029 to 1,187 euros in the following year. After successful completion of the apprenticeship, starting salaries of around 3,200 euros gross per month are quite realistic, and with additional qualifications, the salary can increase to up to 4,200 euros.
The training trend
The general situation of dual vocational training in Germany is still important. A data report from the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB) shows that around 54.4 percent of an age group started training in 2019, with around 1.33 million trainees. However, the corona pandemic in 2020 caused a decline in the number of newly concluded contracts. Communities and companies are therefore required to find creative solutions to overcome the challenges in training and to modernize training systems reports the BIBB.
This year, however, the trend seems to be going up again, as the Schwerin Chamber of Industry and Commerce shows. With the increased number of apprenticeships on offer and the fact that there are more apprenticeships than applicants, the chances for young people to start their professional life with a solid foundation are better than ever.
