Star cuisine in MV: These seven restaurants delight gourmets!

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the star cuisine has now shrunk by one star again. As the svz reported that the region still has seven restaurants with a Michelin star this year. A loss that does not go unnoticed: The “Ostseelounge” in Dierhagen has lost its coveted star and is now one of the elite stars of gastronomy in Germany.

However, that makes those who were able to defend their star happy. These include:

  • „Friedrich Franz“ in Heiligendamm/Bad Doberan,
  • „Alte Schule – Klassenzimmer“ in der Feldberger Seenlandschaft,
  • „Ich weiß ein Haus am See“ in Krakow am See,
  • „freustil“ in Binz,
  • „Kulmeck by Tom Wickboldt“ in Heringsdorf,
  • „The O’ROOM“ in Heringsdorf,
  • „Gourmet-Restaurant Der Butt“ in Rostock-Hohe Düne.

National trends and regional awards

However, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is not alone in the negative trend of star restaurants. At the national level, twelve restaurants were awarded three stars, and the distribution of the other stars also shows a similar picture: 47 restaurants can look forward to two stars, while 282 were honored with one star. How spiegel.de reports, star cuisine remains an important topic in the gastronomy scene.

Particularly noteworthy is the “Old School – Classroom”, which was once again awarded a “Green Star”. This is awarded for resource-saving gastronomy and rewards the use of seasonal and regional products, species-appropriate animal husbandry and waste avoidance. It's a sign of the times that more and more restaurateurs are embracing sustainable practices. A total of 80 restaurants in Germany were awarded a “Green Star”.

A look at development

As the swp explains, last year Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania still had nine one-star restaurants. It is striking that the region is now seeing a further decline compared to 2024. Despite the decline, gastronomy in the region remains highly popular, even if the number of stars is declining.

The Michelin rating has a long tradition - from the first star awards in Germany in 1966 to today. The review by the Michelin testers remains the benchmark and an opportunity for many restaurants to position themselves in their respective markets.

During the period of culinary change, it is to be hoped that the gastronomy scene in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will manage to hold on to star cuisine and, if necessary, even build on the successful 8-star rating in the future.
