Störtebeker Festival: Thousands celebrate buccaneers of the seas”!
The Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek started yesterday with the premiere of the new play “Buyers of the Seas”. Around 8,000 spectators flocked to one of the largest open-air stages in Europe, although the event was still slightly below the sold-out crowd. The special atmosphere and the unmistakable “Störtebeker magic” keep visitors coming back again and again. Tobias Frese from Brandenburg, who has been to the festival several times, emphasizes: “Every time it’s an experience.” His personal highlight is the exciting fight between Klaus Störtebeker and Goedeke Michels.
“The action and explosions in the piece are simply great,” thinks Noel Fildebrandt from Rügen, while Mandy and Ines from Dresden, who only ventured to visit last year, are now eager to experience the entire festival series. Silke Oelschläger and her daughter Soraya from Halle were also enthusiastic about the performance; they were particularly impressed by the impressive horses and the elaborate costumes.
The festival and its surroundings
The Störtebeker Festival 2025 runs from June 28th to September 13th and offers performances from Monday to Saturday at 8:00 p.m. The piece is about the legendary pirate Klaus Störtebeker and features over 150 actors, 30 horses and 4 ships. Daring stunts and impressive special effects round off the spectacle. After each performance, the event is crowned with a magnificent fireworks display over the Great Jasmunder Bodden. The highlight for many is the “Kings of the Skies” program, which is presented by the Walter Falconry.
Those interested can look forward to further news in the ensemble. Wolfgang Lippert will appear as a ballad singer and Janis Günther, new to the team, will play several roles. Alonja Weigert, who plays a mysterious toolmaker, can also be seen for the first time.
Traffic chaos at the port
However, the popularity of the festival also creates challenges - at the roundabout at Ralswieker Hafen there was heavy overcrowding upon departure. Travelers had to be temporarily dropped off in the town center, which caused additional parking problems. A coach driver reported a lack of departure information, which increased stress for everyone involved. It remains to be seen how the organizers will defuse this situation over the course of the festival season.
The Störtebeker Festival promises an exciting season full of adventures and stories. Anyone who would like to experience the spectacle can find further information and tickets in the information and booking center or on the official festival website here.
