The time has come in a few days: On July 6th at 7:30 p.m., an impressive concert will take place in the St. Marien Church in Rostock, in which the peace fair "The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace" is performed by Karl Jenkins. The whole thing is accompanied by the North German Philharmonic Rostock under the direction of Markus Johannes Langer, who also celebrates his 25th anniversary on that day as a church music director at the St. Johannis cantore.

The concert is organized on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war and is focused on current. Global political issues. The performance could not be chosen more appropriately because it takes place in one of the most symbolic churches of Rostock, which was saved in the Second World War and has been serving as a place for inter -religious prayers for years. Nordkurier reports that the work in 1999/2000 was composed for the victims of the Kosov War.

a work full of diversity

"The Armed Man" combines various musical styles. It combines Gregorianik with elements from film music and contains an interreligious approach that includes Jewish, Christian and Islamic elements. Among other things, a muezzin and texts from the Koran are included in the factory. The fair is also rich in text: it falls back on a French soldier's song from the 15th century, contains texts by Rudyard Kipling, psalms, sequences from the Mahabharata and poem fragments of the Hiroshima-surviving Tōge Sankichi.

A predominant dramaturgy shows the war in the middle of the work, accompanied by haunting video projections of fighting and bombing. The piece ends hopefully with the message: "Better is Peace Than Always". This mixture makes the peace fair a unique experience that touches on an emotional level and stimulates thought. Volksbühne Rostock describes it as a musical journey that is left a lasting impression.
