Construction site chaos in Braunschweig: Hamburger Straße makes driving difficult!
Driving in Braunschweig hasn't exactly turned out to be a pleasure in the last few weeks. Numerous construction sites hinder mobility and cause multiple backlogs. In a recent survey by News38 Citizens were asked about the most annoying construction sites in the city.
The results are clear: The biggest nuisance at the moment is the construction site on Hamburger Strasse. A section of the canals is being renovated here, and the work is expected to last until the end of the year. For road users heading north, there is a diversion via Schmalbachstrasse to avoid traffic jams. The second most annoying construction site is Helmstedter Straße, whose construction work is expected to be completed next week.
Current construction sites at a glance
But Hamburger and Helmstedter Strasse are by no means the only problem areas. The city has also lent a hand in other places:
The city administration deliberately scheduled the construction work during the summer holidays in order to keep the disruption to traffic as low as possible, as there is less going on during this time. This is certainly a smart move, even if many citizens express criticism on Facebook because they wish that not all construction sites would be carried out at the same time.
Public transport and diversions
Away from the roads, the Braunschweig-Rautheim exit on the A39 motorway is also closed until July 25, 2025. Detours have been put in place to keep traffic moving more smoothly. On the Traffic situation website You will find a constantly updated overview of all current construction sites in Braunschweig.
During this time, the city of Braunschweig has been asked for patience and understanding. Last but not least, the work serves to improve the infrastructure and quality of life. If you still want to stay up to date, you can find further information at service.braunschweig.de.
