On the night of Friday, June 16, 2025, a brazen break-in at a bicycle shop in the municipality of Velpke, Helmstedt district, caused a stir. The perpetrators stole between 50 and 60 high-quality bicycles with a total value of around 300,000 euros. The loot was therefore considerable and the incident highlights the current problem of bicycle thefts in the region. Loud NDR Investigators are convinced that the perpetrators used a larger vehicle to transport the bicycles.
The burglars managed to get into the bicycle shop premises via a fence. There they picked the locks in the sales and exhibition rooms. The targeted approach and the large number of bicycles stolen suggest that the crime was well thought out. Police are now looking for witnesses who may be able to provide information about a suspicious vehicle near the crime scene. Any information could be crucial to catching the perpetrators and perhaps even getting the stolen bikes back.
