Free vintage bus rides in Braunschweig on the weekend!
Next weekend, September 27th and 28th, the streets of Braunschweig will be driven by a special vintage bus that will bring back memories of days gone by. A nostalgic Büssing one-and-a-half-decker named “Heinrich” complements the image of the city and invites anyone interested to take free city tours. This journey through time is organized by the Braunschweig Local Transport Interest Group, which supports the preservation of historic vehicles with this campaign. Regional today reports that the bus starts at the town hall and the old town market, and the travel times vary between 1:50 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The city tour lasts about two hours and not only offers an exciting journey through the history of the city, but also the opportunity to drive past various sights. These include, among others, the historic old town center, the small Richmond castle with its idyllic landscape garden and the Riddagshausen monastery church, which lies on the edge of a picturesque nature reserve. The route also passes the castle and the State Theater, so there is a lot to discover. 9 cities highlights that Büssing's oldest buses were born here around 100 years ago.
An experience for everyone
Not only are the tours interesting for history and nostalgia lovers, they also provide an accessible way to learn more about the city. Collection takes place at the town hall (bus platform E, in front of the Lindi) and at the old town market (in front of the pharmacy). The departure times are set so that many people can arrange a trip spontaneously. If you want, you can get off in Riddagshausen during the approximately two-hour journey and explore the local recreation area in more detail. The Harz reports that this type of city exploration is back in the program after a two-year break and that the passengers' hearts are particularly happy about the old Büssing bus, which is already almost 60 years old.
The trips are free, but donations for the club's work are very welcome to ensure the sustainable preservation of the museum cars. In addition to the special tours this coming weekend, there are regular trips in the vintage bus from April to October, with a tour taking place on the first and third Saturday of each month. The nostalgic Büssing bus remains an integral part of Braunschweig's leisure activities and celebrates the history of bus construction with every trip.
