Kulturpunkt West shines after renovation: celebrate with us!

Braunschweig, Deutschland - in Braunschweig on June 18, 2025, after two years of intensive construction activity, the newly renovated cultural point of West opened its doors. Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum symbolically handed over the key to the now barrier -free building, which serves as a meeting place for up to 500 people. With an impressive expansion of 360 square meters and seven new rooms, including six group rooms and a room with workbenches, the cultural point becomes a center for cultural events and educational offers.

The opening celebrated the city with an open house, in which the visitors not only explore the new premises, but also participated in numerous courses in dance, sports and art. The day was particularly musical through the appearance of the Braunschweig band Groovelastics, which with their funky and soulful sounds created a great atmosphere. The federal government contributed around 2.27 million euros to the total costs of the renovation, which amount to around 3.85 million euros. The measure is part of the funding project "Campus Donauviertel", which aims to strengthen the cultural infrastructure in the region.

art in the quarter

A special enrichment for the cultural environment is the new Eisbogel artwork by Nasim Naji, which was built on the building on Queckenberg 47-50. The artist has dared to attract himself as high as ever before and thus attracted remarkable attention. The murals were completed on June 30th and has been a popular photo motif for pedestrians and cyclists since then. Local residents have expressed themselves positively about the work of art and wanted similar projects for other houses in the area. A highlight will be the vernissage on August 26th in the Kulturpunkt West, where Fabian Cohn's works are presented, which documented the creative process. This marks the end of the PartQ project in the Donauviertel.

a strong impulse for the culture

As part of the federal local program of the federal cultural foundation, a total of 7.5 million euros are planned for cultural projects in small cities and municipalities by 2031. The aim is to create at least 26 long -term networks that promote commitment in culture. The focus is on art and cultural associations as well as socio-cultural centers. A first round of application in June 2025 have already been selected 13 cultural projects that can be supported by funding of up to 240,000 euros. This initiative opens the space for new partnerships between different social actors, such as schools, sports clubs and local companies to actively shape the cultural life in the city.

Overall, it is about cultural offers and joint commitment to bring the citizens together: to bring together the inside and to make life in the district more alive. With the new rooms in the Kulturpunkt West and the creative impulses from the neighborhood there is an exciting transformation in Braunschweig.

Because the best stories and encounters are often in culture, it remains to be seen how the cultural point will enrich life in the Danube district in a new way.
