Kulturpunkt West shines after renovation: celebrate with us!
In Braunschweig, the newly renovated Kulturpunkt West opened its doors on June 18, 2025 after two years of intensive construction work. Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum symbolically handed over the key to the now barrier-free building, which serves as a meeting place for up to 500 people. With an impressive expansion of 360 square meters and seven new rooms, including six group rooms and a room with workbenches, the Kulturpunkt will become a center for cultural events and educational offerings.
The city celebrated the opening with a colorful open day, where visitors could not only explore the new premises, but also take part in numerous courses in dance, sport and art. The day was made particularly musical by the performance of the Braunschweig band Groovelastics, who created a great atmosphere with their funky and soulful sounds. For the total costs of the renovation, which amount to around 3.85 million euros, the federal government and the state contributed around 2.27 million euros. The measure is part of the “Campus Donauviertel” funding project, which aims to strengthen the cultural infrastructure in the region.
Art in the neighborhood
The new kingfisher artwork by Nasim Naji, which was erected on the Am Queckenberg 47-50 building, represents a special enrichment for the cultural environment. The artist has ventured higher than ever before for this project, attracting remarkable attention. The mural was completed on June 30th and has been a popular photo opportunity for pedestrians and cyclists ever since. Residents have commented positively on the artwork and wanted similar projects for other homes in the area. A highlight will be the opening on August 26th at Kulturpunkt West, where the works of Fabian Cohn, who documented the creative process, will be presented. This marks the completion of the PartQ project in the Donauviertel.
A strong impulse for culture
As part of the Federal Cultural Foundation's LOKAL program, a total of 7.5 million euros are earmarked for cultural projects in small towns and communities by 2031. The goal is to create at least 26 long-term networks that promote engagement in culture. The focus is on art and cultural associations as well as socio-cultural centers. In a first round of applications in June 2025, 13 cultural projects have already been selected, which can be supported by funding of up to 240,000 euros. This initiative opens up space for new partnerships between various social actors, such as schools, sports clubs and local companies, in order to actively shape cultural life in the city.
Overall, it's about bringing citizens together through cultural offerings and joint commitment and making life in the district more lively. With the new rooms in Kulturpunkt West and the creative impulses from the neighborhood, an exciting transformation is taking place in Braunschweig.

Because culture often contains the best stories and encounters, it remains to be seen how the Kulturpunkt will enrich life in the Donauviertel in new ways.
