Summer holidays: Braunschweig students are not allowed to use the D-Ticket!
The summer holidays in Lower Saxony are just around the corner and with them some changes for students in Braunschweig. How news38 reported that students cannot use the Deutschlandticket (D-Ticket) during the holidays. The tickets are blocked electronically during the summer holidays, which means that the note “invalid” is displayed during checks. This regulation even applies to the last two days of school, July 1st and 2nd.
But don't worry! There are exceptions: Student trips in the Braunschweig Region Transport Association (VRB) and neighboring cities and districts are not affected by the closure. In order to be prepared for the coming school year, students who do not yet have a D-Ticket must reapply for one for the 2024/2025 school year. However, existing tickets will be reactivated at the start of the school year if there is a right to student transport. It is important to keep the chip cards because proof of their use must be provided.
Alternatives and offers for students
There is a cost-effective alternative for the summer holidays: Students can buy a U21 leisure card or a U21 summer holiday card for just 23.70 euros, which is valid during the 6 weeks of the summer holidays in the VRB. This enables young people to remain mobile and go on excursions even during the holidays.
In addition to the summer holiday regulations, it is good to know that students who use public transport to school are entitled to the collective student season ticket. The application for the card can be submitted via a new application portal, whereby a non-digital solution is also available: a PDF document can be downloaded if there are difficult problems with the online application, as the city of Braunschweig does on its website braunschweig.de explained.
Important information about student transport
The collective student season tickets (SSZK) are issued at schools in the first week after the school holidays. If the card is lost or damaged, a report by email is required and a replacement card costs 30 euros. A form is available as a PDF to apply for individual transport and can also be accessed on the Braunschweig website.
Anyone who is also interested in using a mobile phone ticket can currently only use it for the SSZK D-Ticket. It is important to note that switching between a chip card and a mobile phone ticket is only possible every six months. If you lose your cell phone, the ticket can be transferred to another device, which makes it even easier to use.
With the upcoming summer holidays and the changes to school transport, things remain exciting for Braunschweig students. Being optimally prepared for the new school year is now more important than ever. Further information on use and application can also be found on the [Verkehrsverbund Süd-Niedersachsen] website (https://vsninfo.de/schuelersammelzeitkarte).
