The shops and cafés were busy and many visitors came to them Ludwig Harms House, which has now established itself as a popular meeting place for people of all generations. Around two dozen boules players spent their time in the neighborhood during theLocal history museumand the new oneFamily and meeting centerwere very popular. The latter impresses with bright, inviting rooms that offer young and old a place to meet.
The Ludwig Harms House, which has over 160 years of history as a training center for missionary students, has made Hermannsburg known nationwide. Mission history comes to life here, and the ground floor of the house is a busy place with a well-stocked bookstore, food court, and more Café-restaurant “Fachwerk”, which will offer regional fresh cuisine and homemade cakes from March 2024. Access is designed to be barrier-free so that everyone has the opportunity to use the offerings.
A place of diversity
The permanent exhibition is on the first floor under the direction ofMichael Charbonnier, the youth representative of the Evangelical Lutheran Missionary Organization (ELM). The worldwide work of the ELM is presented here in an appealing way. The exhibition includes six themed rooms that deal with the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. The connection between the mission history and the current UN goals can be experienced here in a playful way.
What remains particularly memorable is the large room in which up to 20 people can use interactive elements on five networked screens to get to know the UN ideas better.Hannah Rose, the ELM's peace officer, explains the concept of "Peace Place 2Go", which promotes dialogue among visitors and is intended to raise awareness of peace and cooperation, which is of particular importance for Hermannsburg - as this place is one of the eight peace places of the Hanover regional church.
A look at the future
The Ludwig-Harms-Haus presents itself not only as an important meeting place for locals and guests, but also as a lively place for learning and exchange. Starting next year, the hotel will also offer modern guest rooms as part of the B&M Hotel, thereby creating even more options for overnight stays and events.
