New bus, new tracks: tram line T1 discontinued from Monday!

Major progress is imminent: Construction work on extending the tram platforms in the Le Mans area will begin on Monday, June 16, 2025. Loud France Bleu The local transport company La Setram has done everything it can to improve local public transport. These measures are already having a far-reaching impact on tram lines and bus connections.

Particularly affected is the T1 tram line, which will no longer run between the Université and République stations during the construction period. These stations are closed until July 6, 2025. However, there is a cool alternative for travelers: a replacement bus, the B1 line, will be used between Université and the Place des Comtes du Maine. This bus follows the same travel times and frequencies as the tram and enables seamless transition to the tram for destinations such as Antares or the Arche de la nature.

Changes for bus routes

The construction work will also have an impact on bus route 6, which will no longer serve République and De Gaulle stops. The terminus of this bus route will also be moved to Place des Comtes du Maine. Passengers will find numerous information signs at the affected stops, and city maps are clearly visible in most stations. Setram has proactively provided information to make the transition as pleasant as possible.

Adjustments to transport are a necessity in order to overcome future challenges. The German Institute for Urban Studies has determined in a comprehensive survey that there is a need for investment of around 372 billion euros in the German transport system by 2030 in order to maintain and expand both rail networks and roads. The majority of these investments concern tram and subway lines in particular. Such figures show that maintaining an effective transport infrastructure is a major challenge and that continued investment is required. DStGB supports this survey to exert political pressure for the necessary changes.

For the residents of Le Mans, this means: be patient, because the construction work will bring long-term improvements. If you keep an eye on the traffic displays and plan the new routes, you can master the transition phase well. The effort will be worth it to optimize the infrastructure for all users.
