The largest puppet theater in Germany is moving to Delmenhorst in October!

There's another big event on the agenda in Delmenhorst in October: Germany's largest puppet theater, the Lauenburger Puppet Theater, is returning! From October 9th to 19th, spectators young and old can look forward to an impressive journey through the world of dolls with classic entertainment that promises both magic and adventure. The performances take place daily at 4:00 p.m. in the theater tent that is erected on the Bürgerwiese.

The Lauenburger family, who have been running the theater in the seventh generation since 1829, have a very special experience to their name. David and Jasmin Lauenburger are dedicated puppeteers and take over the management of the company. Their roots reach into the dieel. Kasper, the centerpiece of the performances, is over 80 years old and enjoys a special place in the heart of the family. Hubertus Lauenburger, the 77-year-old senior of the family, fondly remembers the beginnings, when the theater was primarily intended for adults, with plays like “Doctor Faustus” written by well-known writers who wrote for the puppet theater.

Entrance and program

The Lauenburg Puppet Theater has a capacity of up to 300 people and offers a varied program. Tickets are available at the theater box office half an hour before the performances, with prices starting at nine euros. Visitors can look forward to stories like “Robber Hotzenplotz” and “Findus”. A highlight will be the appearance of the mascot Chase, who appears at the end of the performance.

  • Öffnungszeiten des Zeltbetriebs: Ab dem 9. Oktober um 11:00 Uhr
  • Aufführungszeit: Täglich um 16:00 Uhr vom 9. bis 19. Oktober
  • Ticketpreise: Ab 9 Euro

The Lauenburger Puppet Theater has made a name for itself through its traditional storyline and the materials used. The handmade dolls made of lime and poplar wood require regular restoration as some are over 80 years old and are deeply rooted in family history. The costumes are also painstakingly handcrafted, which gives them a special charm.

A piece of tradition

The roots of puppet theater go back a long way. As the Puppet Theater Museum website explains, there is evidence that moving figures were used as a means of communication as early as the Common Era. Originally, the puppet theater was aimed at adult audiences, but over time the children's theater developed and is still very popular today. The Lauenburgers' interactive pieces enliven the performance and make it an experience for the whole family.

Visit the Lauenburger Puppet Theater in Delmenhorst and let yourself be enchanted by a tradition full of stories and fantasy. There is nothing better than watching the little viewers, together with their parents and grandparents, see the dolls come to life and tell stories!
