Integration guides celebrate 15 years of intercultural strengthening in Delmenhorst!
This has happened in Delmenhorst and the surrounding area Integration pilot team established as a tried and tested contact point for immigrants. Since its founding in 2010, the voluntary association has been committed to promoting social cohesion and supporting migrants as they start a new life. This is done through a variety of projects and offerings that aim to break down cultural barriers and make integration easier.
The association now has 79 members from over 10 different nations and has one goal: to promote tolerance and international understanding. The current offers include:Referral advicein the native language. Linguists are available for numerous languages, including Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Ukrainian and Turkish. This language mediation is crucial to ensure accessibility for immigrants and to make everyday life easier for them.
Diverse projects for different target groups
The integration pilot team has initiated a number of projects that are specifically aimed at different target groups. Under the motto “Mum and Me“, support is offered to pregnant women and new mothers during theintercultural dance grouppromotes creative exchange between women of different cultures. Also the project“Welcome Families”has proven to be a valuable help by supporting families in the first two months after their arrival in Delmenhorst.
The project exists for men who want to learn the German language"Hand in hand", which offers German lessons in a relaxed atmosphere. Also the weekly German courses “Speak and understand German" are aimed at everyone who would like to improve their language skills. These low-threshold offers are particularly important for integration as they provide direct access to the German language and culture.
Commitment and next steps
The association is currently looking for volunteers for language projects in order to further expand the offering. Anyone interested can contact chairman Timo Rost directly. In addition, the integration pilot team is planning to introduce free debt advice in the association office in order to also offer support in financial matters.
Five committed integration pilots recently took part in the volunteer forum in Oesede to acquire new knowledge and expand the network for integration. This type of knowledge transfer and further training is essential in order to continually improve the offerings and meet the needs of immigrants.
As part of integration courses that are offered nationwide by various providers, support is provided by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees of importance. These courses not only impart language skills, but also valuable information about life in Germany as well as social norms and values. The support provided by integration guides is an important component in making orientation easier for the new arrivals.
With their commitment, the Delmenhorst integration pilot team not only promotes individual integration, but also contributes to better social cohesion.
