District Cup fever: Atlas Delmenhorst II and Wüsting in the quarterfinals!
Things are going strong in regional football! The district cup not only inspires the players, but also regularly attracts several hundred spectators. This season is particularly exciting as the defending champions, Harpstedter TB, were eliminated from the competition early after winning the cup against TV Jahn Delmenhorst last season. TV Jahn has now been promoted to the district league and is therefore no longer represented in the district cup, which makes the search for two new finalists all the more interesting. The round of 16 took place on Wednesday evening, in which the final decisions were made and the excitement for the quarter-finals continued to increase. Weser-Kurier reports on two exciting games that captivated the spectators.
The first duel brought together SV Atlas Delmenhorst II and Ahlhorner SV. Things initially looked bad for Atlas when Ahlhorn striker Andrei-Alexandru Prundeanu shot his team into the lead in the first half. But SV Atlas didn't give up and equalized through Hanno Hartmann shortly before the break. Dominik Entelmann finally scored the apparent winning goal in the 89th minute. But the boys from Ahlhorn showed strong nerves and equalized in stoppage time. However, in the subsequent penalty shootout, Atlas was able to prevail and advance to the quarter-finals. Renken, Pollmann, Entelmann and Lyubenov converted their penalties safely, while Ahlhorn only converted three of four shots.
