Family experienced an unforgettable day at the Hanover Zoo with cancer patient Sabrina

In the last few days a very special event took place at Hannover Zoo that touched hearts and gave unforgettable moments. This time it was the family of Sabrina, a single mother, who was able to spend a special time at the zoo with her four children. This time out together was made possible by the Lower Saxony Wish Car, which specializes in fulfilling wishes for sick people. News38 reported on the moving details of this special encounter.

Sabrina, in her early forties, is suffering from serious cancer and has little time left. Her family comes first and so a day at the zoo was organized so she could spend carefree times with her loved ones. A total of 20 people – mostly close family members – enjoyed the trip. Two volunteers looked after Sabrina as she walked through the zoo and had exciting adventures.

An unforgettable day at the zoo

The day started with a boat trip on the Zambezi, followed by a visit to the polar bears in Youkonbay. A highlight was a visit to the monkey enclosure, where a curious chimpanzee sat down next to Sabrina and created an emotional moment. Despite the pain and discomfort she felt during the trip, Sabrina ignored her discomfort and enjoyed every minute with her children while munching on a portion of nuggets.

At the end of the day, as the sun set and the zoo closed its doors, Sabrina took not only the experiences with her, but also a souvenir picture with her family, which now adorns her bedside table in the hospice. T Online reported another moving story that shows how important such trips are for those affected.

A visit full of emotions

A former zookeeper who worked at Hannover Zoo during her training in the 1970s also returned, despite her serious cancer. Thanks to the Lower Saxony Wish Car, she was also able to visit. When she arrived, she was transported to the zoo on a stretcher and was amazed at the changes that had taken place since then. Together with her sister, her partner and ASB volunteers, she explored the former animal enclosures; the lions and gorillas in particular left a lasting impression on her.

The visit was of great importance to her - despite the exhausting pain, she was very happy about returning to her old job. When she said goodbye, she received a small plush lion as a souvenir. This special campaign shows how important it is to provide such support, requiring not only donations for the Lower Saxony Wish Car, but also participation in the campaigns that make these moving experiences possible.
