Brazen burglar in Calberlah: gold jewelry stolen in front of the residents!
In recent days, the region has been struggling with worrying burglaries. Already on July 8, 2025, there was a brazen incident in a residential building on Berliner Strasse in Calberlah. Between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m., an unknown perpetrator entered the property through an open door while the 74-year-old victim was working in the garden. The senior's son was upstairs in the house at the time. The perpetrator stole valuable gold jewelry and then fled through the front door. However, when the son heard the sound of closing and looked, he could no longer see the intruder. Fortunately, the family was unharmed, but their sense of security has been shattered.
The Isenbüttel police have now started the investigation and are actively looking for witnesses. The wanted perpetrator is described as athletic, around 1.70 to 1.80 meters tall and between 20 and 25 years old. He was wearing a dark cap, a dark striped shirt, three-quarter length trousers and a shoulder bag. Information about the suspect can be given by calling 05374 955010, so that hopefully clarity will soon be brought into this dramatic incident.
Act in Mariensiel causes unrest
But Calberlah is not the only community affected. There was also a break-in in Mariensiel last Saturday. There, unknown perpetrators broke into a single-family home on Perimeter Street and stole cash while the resident was returning home. When the victims arrived, the intruders escaped in a previously stolen blue VW Golf with a WHV license plate. Witnesses who may have seen something are also being sought here. The perpetrators were described as male, around 170cm tall, with a West Asian appearance and tanned skin. The police are asking for information on 04461/74490.
Focus on burglary crime in Germany
The reports from Calberlah and Mariensiel are part of a worrying trend in Germany. According to statistics, there were a total of around 119,000 residential burglaries in 2023, the highest level since 2019. Compared to the 167,000 cases in 2015, this is over 50% lower, but the security situation remains tense. Urban states such as Bremen, Berlin and Hamburg in particular have the highest risk of burglary. The clearance rate also remains relatively low at 14.9%. The psychological burden on those affected by such crimes is repeatedly discussed, because not only material values are lost, but also a piece of privacy and security.
The current cases show once again how important it is to be vigilant within your own four walls. The police recommend keeping doors closed at all times and reporting suspicious people. So stay alert and make sure your neighborhood stays safe, because only together can we defend ourselves against the criminal gangs.
