First planners' get-together in Gifhorn: Women's networking for the future
In the tranquil Gifhorn region, a lot is happening to increase the visibility of women in architecture. On the occasion of the upcoming WIA Festival, which will take place nationwide from June 19th to 29th, 2025, architects, planners and other women from these disciplines have come together for a first get-together. The aim of this meeting is to build a local network to promote exchange, support and visibility in a traditionally male-dominated professional field. How regionalheute.de reported, the regulars' get-together will take place on June 18th at 7 p.m. in the traditional costume house of the International Mill Museum.
Another highlight is the “Women’s Works” exhibition, which celebrated its vernissage on May 19th. This presents the creative and planning work of women in architecture and related disciplines and will be on display in the Sanssouci Mill until June 29th. This initiative is part of the international network Women in Architecture (WIA) and is based on the motto “Diversity in Building Culture”.
The WIA Festival 2025
The WIA Festival is not just a regional event, but a Germany-wide spectacle that puts the spotlight on the work of 264 projects by women in architecture, interior design, urban and landscape planning, as well as construction and engineering. From June 19th to 29th, the diversity in building culture will be underlined in various formats such as exhibitions, lectures, discussion groups, workshops and film screenings. fv2architektur.com emphasizes that the visibility of women in a male-dominated professional field should be strengthened by presenting their stories and works.
Numerous events are to take place as part of the festival, including a seminar for young female architects, which is intended to make it easier for them to become self-employed, as well as a poster campaign to make the achievements of women in architecture visible in several federal states. BDA reports on numerous regional events, discussions and film screenings that are open to the general public and put the topic of women in architecture at the top of the agenda.
Overall, the WIA Festival 2025 will send an important signal to the architecture scene in Germany and will not only promote the exchange of specialist knowledge and experiences, but also increase awareness of the challenges and successes of women in this industry. Participation in these events offers the opportunity to be inspired and make valuable contacts.
