Climate protection district in Gifhorn: When does construction for the daycare center and 90 apartments start?

Something is happening in Gifhorn – a new residential area is being built on the former hospital site on Bergstrasse, which goes by the name “Hohe Düne”. This climate protection quarter will offer space for around 900 people and is all about sustainability. The asset group from Bremen, led by managing director Ingo Damaschke, has launched an ambitious project that is intended to sustainably enrich the residents in the region. The demolition of the old hospital has now been completed, while the construction of eight terraced houses and a network of paths is already in full swing. The current status is promising: the first houses are already visible and the network of paths has been expanded to 600 meters.

But there are exciting decisions ahead, because the project is unfortunately also struggling with delays. Before the next construction phases can begin, a funding notice from N-Bank is required. Damaschke hopes that further progress will proceed quickly, without additional obstacles. The plans provide for approval for a daycare center and 22 subsidized apartments in the coming weeks. The DRK Gifhorn is intended to be the sponsor here, and the construction period for the daycare center is scheduled for summer 2027.

Construction progress and further plans

So is there light at the end of the tunnel? Definitely! A total of around 400 residential units are being built on the site, which served as a district hospital before the redevelopment and was abandoned in 2013. The development of the area has already been completed, all construction roads have been asphalted and the necessary supply lines have been laid in the ground. In addition, probes for geothermal energy were installed, giving the entire district a green face.

The new streets already have well-known names such as Laubbergstrasse, An der Sanddüne, Am Grünen Anger and of course Hohe Düne. According to Damaschke, a topping-out ceremony for the terraced houses is planned for May 2024, which indicates a positive development and the progress of the construction work.

The path continues

Another important step is imminent: the building application for two additional building complexes with up to 90 apartments will be submitted in the first quarter of 2024, with approval expected by the end of 2026. This sends a clear signal for the future development of the region. Damaschke is optimistic that the entire project will have a positive impact on the people of Gifhorn as the city strives for future-proof, sustainable housing.

With all of these promising developments, Gifhorn has the potential to transform into a modern, vibrant community - all in harmonious harmony with nature. The “Hohe Düne” chapter is now open and the next steps are eagerly awaited.
