MTV Gifhorn wins, but injury to youngster Bahr casts a shadow!
Last Sunday, MTV Gifhorn showed in the friendly against TSV Germania Lamme that the team is on the right track by starting the game with a 2-0 win without conceding a goal. Coach Holger Ringe was happy with the result after the final whistle, but a substitution due to injury clouded the overall picture. Youngster Til Eike Bahr injured his ankle after just 15 minutes and had to be taken to hospital for a detailed examination. Ringe expressed that the foul that led to this injury was not necessary and hopes for a quick recovery of the talent.
The game began with the Gifhorn team clearly predominating, but they had difficulty creating clear scoring chances. Goalkeeper Merlin Thiel, who showed a solid performance, prevented several dangerous counterattacks from Lamme. Finally, it was Jovan Hoffart who made it 1-0 with a courageous move in the 42nd minute. The game remained dominated by Gifhorn even after half-time, while the offensive continued to have problems. Alex Geiner, who only came into the game in the final phase, made it 2-0 with his header in the 88th minute.
Focus on injury prevention
Bahr's injury sheds light on the high demands that football places on athletes. Speed, strength and endurance are required, but unfortunately also risky. Statistics show that most accidents in club sports occur in football. Around 7 million footballers in Germany are affected by this, with a significant proportion of the injuries occurring in the lower extremity area. These include around 27% injuries to the knee and more than 18% to the ankle joint. This highlights the importance of injury prevention programs to reduce risk, particularly during the preseason.
Current scientific findings show that effective prevention measures, such as neuromuscular training, can make a significant contribution to reducing injuries. Programs like FIFA 11+ are proven to reduce both the risk and severity of lower extremity injuries. In addition, aspects such as nutrition and hydration play a crucial role in preventing injuries and improving performance. Other outstanding programs, such as the PEP program or exercises such as the Nordic Hamstring Curl, should be an integral part of your training.
The next steps for MTV Gifhorn
Coach Ringe knows that regeneration is now the top priority for his players. “We only have a small squad available and some players will have to play in unfamiliar positions next week,” he says. The next game is on Sunday against SV Arminia Hannover, where one can hope that the team can then rely on all players.
With a solid performance and the will to win, the team could go into the next game with a positive feeling and at the same time learn valuable lessons from their recent experiences. Ringe and his team will not only have to concentrate on the commitment and performance of the players, but also increasingly on injury prevention through appropriate measures to optimize the return to play and retention in training.
